Pretty easy for all parties involved to sit here and point fingers as we all enjoy the spoils of a modern world. Like cheap power from the dams providing power for the casinos. Yes mistakes have been made but we are all in this together and we will need cooperation on all sides to come up with solutions. The Super citizen thing is not working out and needs to go away, yet we continue to frequent the casinos giving them money to sue us over everything. Time to wake up people and see it for what it is. I am done with this thread as well.

Naw... we have the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla here. They ceded millions of acres of land in their treaty.

Whoever came up with the idea of having sovereign nations inside the geographic boundaries was shortsighted IMO. Now we should have little countries for Syrians, Somalis, African-Americans, etc. And we definitely should give California back to Mexico... let them deal with it.

As society became more sophisticated and dumped the philosophy of white man's burden, etc. some folks said equality for all under the law. The Fed, like most governments picked and chose which treaties to honor and which to wink and nod at.

Judge Boldt decided "in common" meant 50/50 white and native share. The fisheries were abused, and regardless of who you want to blame....they are a shambles by dams and overfishing of not only salmon but the feeder fish like smelt and herring. And now the State and Federal hatcheries are a disaster because nobody gets fired for incompetence any more. I am fine with the tribes and their casinos, etc.....Unfortunately, lawyers and all it's the system I do know some tribes are more forward thinking and sharing and some don't just hand out casino profits like welfare..some do.

If it weren't for the politicians the country would be far more of a melting pot as is the military....Ain't a lot of room for 24/7 racism when there is a mission to accomplish.

As a professional historian.....The 1855 treaty did come at the muzzle of muskets. Fortunately for both sides WASH. Territory "Indian Wars" were relatively bloodless compared to the plains, the S, the NE and SW.
