Opposite the "smart" gun thread, how about oldy-timey - a Pike. a Spear. Or as we in the gun culture say - a Bayonet?

A bayonet on your home defense gun? Why not

"Why don’t more people mount bayonets on their home defense rifles? Think about it."

I posted this question awhile back. Most think its a bad idea. Me? I think its a good idea. Gives you another lethal/less than lethal option. Intimidation factor pretty high. I keep one on my HD M1 carbine.

Too bad Kershaw/ZT will no longer make the ZT-9. Hopefully, they'll have a replacement for it. That's an awesome bayonet.

    Dumb idea IMO.....

Most civilians who have never trained with a bayonet would get killed in seconds.

Killed in seconds? By what? A burglar with a bayonet? A guy with a gun? Gun guy is easy. Pull trigger a couple times. BTW I am retired military and did have bayonet training. But thats not what is going to make a difference here. Army bayonet training in my era was brief, simple, laughable and largely unremembered. So was physical fitness in my case. Marines.....might be a different story I hear their bayonet training is much more extensive.

I suppose you might get killed in seconds by enemy spec ops at you door, Bruce Lee, enemy Cuban airborne, a gang of 15 against 1 but............NONE of these scenarios are EVER gonna happen to me. At worst I might have on e skinny tweeker wishing he were somewhere else.

    Thats what I think.

I guess I fall into the "Marines.....might be a different story I hear their bayonet training is much more extensive" category.

I want my enemy to be as far away from me as possible prior to me engaging/dispatching them via bullet or otherwise. Anytime you are arms length away from a bad guy with a knife or other sharp object that's a formula for disaster. Even the drunkest, most stoned, crazy, inbred, tweeker etc. can get lucky at that point.

    1. it extends the over all length of the firearm
    2. the firearm is not as accurate with a bayonet mounted (granted not a concern in HD)
    3. Safety are you going to keep a blade like that unsheathed? Will you have to take the time to remove the sheath
    4. The chances of needing your home defense firearm in the real world are so tiny whats the chances your going to try to gut someone with your big pokie thing in a real world situation?
    5. Can you say MALL NINJA
    6. PLEASE !

In all but the most protracted tactical indoor gun battle against ninjas, polar bears, the illuminati and cuban exile mercenaries, I think I'm more likely to run out of people before I run out of bullets. When the cops ask, why did you shoot that guy 17 times, and I say "because I didn't have any more bullets" I don't have bayonette wounds to also explain.

I'm really confused as to why anyone would want to use a mounted bayonet to defend their house, it makes the gun longer, it gets stuck in things, and most importantly, it prevents me from mounting my grenade launcher when the illuminati show up with a gang of ninja cuban exile polar bear mercenaries.

Pig-sticker is a completely underutilized term. I applaud you, sir. My grandfather used to refer to anything above a table knife as a "toad-sticker."
