Maybe someone can school me here. This ammo touts its mushroom and weight retaining abilities and it looks good in advert videos. Yet when I shoot it I get no mushrooming at all. I put a round in to the end of a fir round as well as a dirt bank. I dug both out and absolutely no expansion at all. Is gelatin really that different? I would have thought the one in the fir would have expanded. Thoughts?

Perhaps the wood being MUCH denser than body tissue prevented the mushrooming by "encapsulating" the slug, and the dirt may not have provided enough (or right type of) resistance to cause the bullet nose to crush in on itself and cause mushrooming.

Try using several water filled milk jugs stacked front to back and see if that does anything different, or better yet fill those milk jugs with gelatin and give that a go!

Water. You need hydrostatic shock to expand the hollow point.

Hydro.... hydro...

Soft material. Wood/dirt/metal doesn't fill the cavity.
