I don't recall a time in our country when we had this much distrust of each other and were so polorized. Our president has been continuously and purposely devisive and there doesn't seem to be an end is sight. Seems like very unsettling times.

Polarization of this country started under George W Bush, actually you could even go back to Newt Gingrich who decided partisan politics was good for the country. I remember that Iraq war was very divisive in this country because it was quite apparent that the Bush administration had been 100% wrong on several of their reasons to take this country to war at best, and at worst had in fact lied to the US public.

Bush was so divisive as a President, and this does come back to Barack Obama, that if you voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004, you were essentially voting for Barack Obama in 2008 since Presidential historians have deemed GWB the worst President since Warren G. Harding died in office (contrary to people who believe that Obama is the worst President in US History).

I agree that Obama is probably the most disliked President by the deep south since Abraham Lincoln passed the Emancipation proclamation. Obama had the earliest Secret Service protection of any Presidential nominee, and had a 400% increase in assassination threats on his life in the 2008 election than Bush did in the 2004 election.

BUt to be honest, while we may disagree with him on guns, he really isn't that far left or radical, overall he's probably center-left and might have even been considered a moderate Republican 30 years ago. If you want to see a far left politician, look up Bernie Sanders. I often tell right wingers that if Obama is this radical left wing politician that they can not stand, then they would blow their brains out if Bernie Sanders ever got to the highest office, because he is the only self-declared socialist in the whole congress and is often far to the left even of Obama on several issues.

The title of the thread is misleading and inaccurate.

Barack Obama did not personally make the decision to have the bolts removed from the rifles, any more than he decided where to stack the chairs or store the podium or set up the awnings that were used in the inauguration.

I'm not defending the man, just pointing out a fact. Figuring out the logisitics and security arrangments for the inauguration are the responsibility of the Secret Service, not the President.

I would not be surprised to find out that the same rifles with missing bolts were used when Bush was inaugurated.

There are plenty of genuine problems that can and should be blamed upon Obama, but this isnt one of them.

Where you present? Involved with the decision? If not, I submit that what you wrote is pure speculation. For all we know it was B.O.s express request and it wouldn't be inconsistent with his views.

I'm not "blaming Bush" because it is what everyone does, but the fact of the matter is, he is really the root of a lot of problems in this country. In the most recent pollings of Presidential Historians George W Bush is ranked amongst the top 10 worst Presidents (though he doesn't top that list, usually its that guy who only served 30 days, sometimes they don't even count him, or Andrew Johnson) in the last 90 years. Warren G Harding's corrupt administration is the last administration to be ranked a worse failure than George W Bush's administration, and he died in office on August 2nd 1923. I don't look to Democrats or Republicans to ask them who was the worst President in modern history, I look up pollings of academic Historians who's job is to study all 44 administrations and rank them accordingly from best to worst. Technically we only had 43 Presidents, I think it was Garfield or something who served a split term in that he served 4 years, got voted out, than served another 4 years after he ran again and his successor was voted out.

I think a lot of Republicans underestimate how much damage a really bad President can do. Even Republican Presidential Historians don't rank George W Bush's administration as a success, even members of his own party consider him to be a failure.

This is a good article on the topic.In the last 4 Presidential pollings, he has consistently ranked between the 31 and 39 out of 44 Presidents. He is definitely in the bottom quartile though for the most part, his aggregate score, even with his "good pollings" places him at #34 out of 44 Presidents.

One of the best Presidents we ever had who consistently ranks between #1 and #3 is FDR, and most people would consider him a socialist by todays standard, but a lot of his policies were successful and he was President through most of WWII.
