Banning the AR-15 Won't Solve the Mass Shooting Crisis - VICE

This is an interesting read. Always curious to find the flaw in thinking here.

The idea that gun owners are responsible to the public for damage done by others is the downright anthesis of the individual in our society.

Because this essay poses the restrictions as a free market solution, I think he expects us to jump at the chance to show how capitalist we are, while pushing forward the collectivist idea of all gun owners being responsible.

This article is revealing, misguided, and scary all at the same time.

This article is all over the place. First, it makes the assumption that the family members of victims of violence are money interested. Usually when you lose a family member, money is the last thing on your mind - and a payout from insurance isn't going to bring back a loved one. But none of any of this matters when you look at gun ownership as a Constitutionally guaranteed RIGHT, which is what it is. Forcing gun owners to carry insurance policies on their firearms is problematic because of this. Also, this seems like a roundabout way of forcing gun registration. If gun registration is unConstitutional, then how is forcing the owner to insure the firearm any less so?
