Ballot to Ban Assault Weapons is a Good Idea.

The idea behind this ballot measure is to ban the new purchases of assault weapons and hi-cap magazines and require current owner to register them.
Over a generation or less these firearms will dwindle to where there will be no more serious ownership. The firearms owned will be worth nothing, as you can't sell them. The stock pile of magazines will be worthless.

So why is Ballot to Ban Assault Weapons is a Good Idea?
Because Oregon gun owners need a wake up call and this has to be it.
The NRA and OFF are not white nights that will rush thru and save the day they have no power against millions of voters zip, nada none. We have been duped over and over told just donate and all will be well, mean while in our states history the NRA and OFF have done nothing to stop the runway train.
No, nothing will be fine, the OFF camp is already looking at how to fight this in court when it passes, even they know there is nothing they can do. Bad news, seldom in this nations history has a gun law been repealed in courts and never why a sitting liberal is in office in Oregon. More blowing smoke up are arses by these lobbyist.

This summer needs to be a time to rise up and not with some silly lobby plan. They are inept at stopping anything.
We have two choices:
1. Get these lobbyist up off the couch and tell them enough is enough.
2. We all work to find better leadership because this ballot will indeed be a nail in the coffin of rights if passed.

If we think the NRA and OFF were useless before, wait until voters pass such a ballot measure and next session 2019 we will see much much more rights taken. If this Ballot passes OFF and the NRA might as well stay home next year because if you think this ballot is bad wait until it passes and public support will give them all the excuses they need.

Having an assault weapons ban on the ballot is not a situation we want to be in.

^ Indeed it is not. Most of us of here who have read the text know how much damage this monstrosity would do to our liberties. However, there are plenty in the electorate who are anti-2A, are clueless on firearms terminology and law, or both. All they'll see is "(gasp!) assault weapons!" on the ballot.

I do agree that we as gun owners need a "wake up" call...and a strong united front...but...

Once we give up on type of firearm , accessory , magazine ...there will be another call to ban , law , ruling . BGC , whatever...against whatever new gun is the current bogeyman or item of "evil" , that needs to go away in someone's view....

New laws , bans , restrictions etc... do nothing to stop crime...a law only works if you are willing to abide by it.
