I wanted to bid on a couple of muzzleloaders and although they had lots of pictures, none were of areas that typically were pitted and nasty. I requested more pictures, crickets.

Don't believe the stated GB protection policy.
I was nailed by a dealer in Georgia. Filed a complaint, the crickets started chirping.
Must have been a coincidence that GB is located a short drive from the dealer. Hmmm

It's like buying a car at a dealer. The sticker price is just the start.

Annoying as it is, I wouldn't let $75 stand between myself and something I want if that something were already going to cost me well over a grand. Now you have a headache
Your analogy would work if the agreement for the car you are buying was already signed and the dealer was trying to change the deal afterwards. An auction that has ended with certain terms is not the same thing as a sticker price. The terms of the auction were already set, the seller changing them after the fact is just wrong.
