Ya never know, I have run into so called "Kits' that have been scabbed together with all sorts of parts! It's kind of common now days with all the good kits dried up!

Could be metric barrel in an inch kit. But its a metric barrel.

Though, shims could probably help if he buys a receiver that's out of spec or something.
