Slightly outdated, but ATF reported on the June 2021 catastrophe. Seems LAPD is at fault, they tried to cram 42lbs TNT equivalent of cherry bombs into a 15lb detonation chamber, creating a city-scale bomb. Scary!

Report is here. Good reminder that gun powder / fireworks in metal box = bomb

Damaged:
26 houses
17 people
33 vehicles
Total cost to City of LA: Guessing $10 to $100 million?

Hey Cletus, Can we blow this Sheet up and get away with it?
Heck yeah ad some TNT and blame the ferr crackers.

Not the first time something like this has happened.

Mid '80s in Houston (I think) police seized a large quantity of the explosive compound used in M-80 type fireworks. They chose to relocate it to a nearby vacant lot and detonate it there that evening. Of course, the media was invited.

In the video, you could see the triggering charge go off on top of what looked like a 55-gallon barrel, but then the screen went instantly white and the audio overloaded. As the video slowly faded back in, it was obvious the camera was no longer upright, but you could see the edge of what looked like a glowing orange nuclear cloud going skyward.

Dozens injured, many with hearing loss, and multiple businesses and homes damaged.

The morons did that in a neighborhood what the heck why wouldn't you do that somewhere out in the open. Good lord growing up we would have known to do that well away from anyone or anything in the 4 or 5th grade.

Pshh, none of these events have anything on the 1970 whale explosion debacle on the Oregon coast.

George Thorton lived the rest of his life in humiliation and refused to talk about that debacle all the way up to his dying day. Apparently, it was made worse by the fact that just minutes before the detonation a former Special Forces veteran and Ordinance Disposal Expert with the Navy came up to him on the beach and told him it wouldn't work. He got mad at the man and ignored him.

It seems like of all the Departments on the West Coast, LAPD seems to be the most incompetent. And their dispatchers are horrible too.

The one guy there who's nice Cadillac was destroyed and had to be paid for by them was some kind of "expert" with explosives and had tried to tell those guys they were doing it all wrong. The one in charge told him to leave it to the professionals and blew him off. One giant piece of the whale landed on the guys car and made one hell of a mess. :s0140:

It would have worked, they just need more explosives. :s0140:

I don't have TV here and try to stay away from the news, so I didn't hear about this.
Potent lil VBIED. Their bomb techs need to be pulled and sent back to school.
