Come on you guys,

I grew up in this valley and I ain't about to let it go without a fight.
The town of Ashland was a railroad stop and a Timber town back in the 50s and 60's.

Hard working folks that wanted better for their kin and kids.

Lots has changed here, and now it is mostly a tourist economy and the University.

We've been invaded by folks from california (since it is just over the hills) and that is why it is so important that you let the folks in the city council know that you will not visit here or spend money here, if you can not exercise the rights as written in the Bill of rights.

Hit them in their pocketbook and tell them why.

This is not a lost cause.
Unless we give up on it,

and if we do,

it just makes California bigger.

Please get behind this.

Isn't Ashland the epicenter of Oregon's social progressive movement?
Yep, basically starting with the ending of the infamous 'Summer of Love' in 1967 San Fransisco. The hippies there that could no longer take the public and legal pressure somehow discovered Ashland (and Southern Oregon in general) as the new hippy refugee country to go to.

In actuality,CITIES ARE NOT ALLOWED preemptive laws.

These can always be beat in court, buttttttttttttttttttttttttt, it takes time and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$4

I wrote them a scalding letter and explained it to them.

As a woman, I am very concerned about these types of laws.

Growing up a child of the 50's and 60's I grew up with a respect for decent laws that were in place for the greater good.

These liberal whackos don't have the stones to deal with criminals, but will instead take the lazy route, and punish honest folks, why, because it's easier.

The warm Fuzzy thing applies here, the don't do anything that helps stop real crime, but they will crow about the new laws they made

What a joke.

The entire government has turned to a bunch of spineless wimps.

Where are the real people like John Wayne and Ron Reagan when ya need them /??????

Thanks for the link

My humble submission to the city council

I will not be interested in spending time in Ashland. I will not patronize businesses there if these types of Ordinances which infringe on the Bill of Rights are passed.

Furthermore Southern Oregon is deep rooted in tradition. This tradition includes freedom to own any firearm we see fit to help use protect and feed ourselves.

If you take on the issue of trying to control the citizens and tell them what is best for them while not even knowing the individual needs of citizens , you will instantly alienate yourselves from the rest of the state.

Ashland thrives on tourism and these tourists come from all walks of life, which gather in mass for many events making them vulnerable if you do indeed succeed in creating gun free zones

You will never stop a bad person intent to do damage no matter what laws you have in place, look at Chicago…..no firearms and yet one of the deadliest cities in the world because there are easy targets for bad people looking to do bad things because criminals and psychopaths will always find a way to obtain a firearm with complete disregard to your laws.

In the Colorado movie theater shooting a few years ago it was proven that the shooter bypassed a couple non restricted theaters, playing the same movie, with the same numbers in patrons only to do the terrible deed in the first available gun free zone because he knew there would be no one there to confront him ……the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. When bad guys know there will be no one to stop them, they will be free to do as they please.

Only the citizens on the scene of an unfolding tragedy can prevent it because the police are rarely in the right place at the right time when these events occur.

Another problem I have with your proposal is that Ashland is fairly peaceful, there is no gang problem, and there are no shooting of note and the shootings that have occurred were thing that could happen anywhere, anytime.
There is not a problem with mass shootings in Ashland so I think it is very wrong of you to make people who have done nothing wrong pay the consequence for a nonexistent problem…….guilty before proven innocent is never a good policy and not what this state or country was founded on

I believe the most serious problem is on the Greenway because of all the nomadic people living in the bushes that think they own the Greenway that the city of Ashland has enabled. There have been regular rapes, stabbings and beatings on the Greenway in and around Ashland. The greenway is to be used by the people for all sorts of activities and if you take away the protection from law abiding citizens that use the Greenway there will be many more rapes of our women and killing of innocent people because the residence of the blackberry bushes will know for sure that it is unlikely anyone will have a firearm of substance or a firearm at all.

Please take these points into consideration because it has never been more important to be vigilant and protect our own in these times of societal decay in a country that is teetering on the razors edge of losing what our forefathers have fought so hard to preserve.

oli700, thanks for your thoughtful input.

You are right about the greenway issue. I know folks in Talent and they routinely see women joggers packing sidearms down there when they use the trail. There are some folks down there that just want to get by and be left alone, and some that are ruff necks and trouble makers.

The Talent PD knows that folks pack openly on the greenway and has been cool about it. Never had a lick of trouble with the PD. They are small but seem to know the score and what rights are protected. so that is a good thing.

Ashland P.D. has also got a good handle on rights and freedoms and has shown that they do via various interactions with folks that pack open etc. They have a lot on their plate, an overwhelming number of out of towners from all over. Never had a lick of trouble with them either. It is the out of towners that bring their socialist mentality. They come here from another state that is wrecked and then proceed to wreck what we have.

I emailed a letter to the council stating that if the ordinances are passed we will no longer visit Ashland. I have no idea if it will do any good, but maybe if there's enough numbers...

A lot of hollywood people have bought up the homes and land around there also. Bringing their social/communist mentality there to roost.
