Article on solar storms

I posted this because it is the first time that I've read that they think the largest solar storms occur in cycles.

I read elsewhere that the storms are categorized into "somewhat" of a logarithmic scale, where C is small, M is medium, and X is large (I think I remember it right with C, M, and X). We experience very few X storms.

This stuff is interesting. we are currently at the peak years of solar storm cycle. could you imagine the damage that would be caused if we had another carrigton event in this day and age?. it would be catastrophic.

Just a small one in Quebec caused several millions in power grid damage in the 80's if i'm not mistaken. what makes it so bad is how ungrounded our powergrids are, they are so outdated it is bound to fail even i we have a near miss. I hope we are facing away from it when it hits.
