hello im new here so go easy , i have my grand fathers "Armory Gun Co," single barrel breech loading shot gun. i have tracked it to cresent arms. NOW my question is im looking for a repair manual, or a reference book, i have tried Numerich but they are no help. my gunonly has one marking on it..."Armory Gun Co" is the only marking i have found.

Specifically i am looking for a stock bolt, i bought the last ne from Numrich a few days a go and it is about 1/2 inch to short. would it be easier to go to Lowes or home depot, and look for something a bit longer same thread count . and style.?

That or if you have specs hunt down order if needed from auto supply place. My experience w hardware stores is a crapshoot if best. Allways close to my needs but wrong...then I settle for convienance only to throw another bolt in the pile..

Another option is take the bolt to your friendly local welding shop and have them splice a piece to make it long enough, you can probably even have it within the hour if they aren't too busy an probably cheaper than ordering one to size and you won't have to wait on shipping. That's what I would do, so what if it isn't pretty it isn't out in the open anyway, All you need to worry about is, is it straight and is it long enough.
Another way is buy a bolt too long then take it to a machinist and have him shorten it and cut the correct threads.

Often when repairing antique firearms , you will have to make your own bolt , screw , spring etc ..
Or re-work a "drop-in" replacement part to actually fit.

I 'd get a bolt ( or three ) of the right thread count from your local store , but longer than you need and shape and shorten it to fit.
Or have a machinist do the same ... as Gabby suggested.
