Are there any "shootable" gravel pits off Hwy. 26 in the coast range?
Yes. Near Browns Camp.
Looking for something farther north, closer Hwy. 26.
I don't like Browns Camp...too many "yahoo's". Would rather drive somewhere less popular to avoid having to watch out for others.
I hear ya about Browns Camp, I am not aware of any pits open to the public closer in.
Try this: Google Maps. Salmonberry road south off 26 just after mp 32 has many pullouts. Most are only suitable for handgun shooting. But the gravel pit on the map will get you ~100yds straight and maybe 150 slightly uphill.
Turn onto Salmonberry RD go about 2 miles up turn left onto Camp 5 road, then about a mile further. You will drive through the pit. If you stay on Salmonberry about another 1/4 mile I belive it is Rockridge RD is to the left and there is a couple good spots up that way within about a mile and a half. If you go now you will have some snow to deal with. Not much depending on how high up you go.
Thanks Giddyupgo55 & Pinne65, I will check out that area.
I have been up there decent little area for a pistol. last time I took the boys up there we hauled out a good amount of garbage, this was early last summer, so it might be kind of trashy again.
