I considered an AR 308 SBR as I'm not sure I'd want to shoot it without the buttstock. I looked at a 12.5" barrel and even that seems to have a huge drop in velocity. With a 10.5", you might be better off to buy a 30 carbine with a folding stock.

Of course, I respect your decision do 'just do it' because you can ;)

A .300 Blackout pistol might be a fun one to build.
That's what I was thinking too, although I'd SBR it and plan for a suppressor in the future. I think 10" is about the ideal length for that caliber. A 308 will lose too much velocity and will probably be plunking them out at sub 7.62x39 velocity, but if the enemy is within 25yds you can fry them with the fireball from the muzzle or at least render them deaf.
