I just picked up a brand new Spikes lower reciever from a private party and after getting home noticed the serial number is marked SBR-17xxx. I'm assuming this stands for Short barrel rifle? It's a new virgin lower. So what does this mean if anything? Can I use it for a pistol build? Thanks for any info in advance.
You don't have to worry but with that marking you could make it into a SBR with the proper paperwork.
The serial# can be anything, so the SBR could be anything. If it's engraved with a previous owner's name, then that might be related to SBR paperwork.
My understanding is that is just part of the serial number. The Spikes customer service forum says "Not an SBR. We were looking to use them as SBR only lowers, but never booked them as such because demand for standard rifle lowers is too high." It also says "When we app'd the prefix we actually listed it as "Spike' Battle Rifle prefix SBR". So it actually doesn't stand for Short Barrel Rifle. " Links included below. If you don't mind my asking, what did you pay for it? Is it the spider? I bought my son a Spike's punisher lower several months ago for what I thought at the time an inflated price of $125. Now I'm wishing I would have bought myself one as well to SBR it.
