Apparently NRA is spending most of their $ on defending LaPierre's PERSONAL legal issues

Problems with Wayne LP go back at least to 2004. I discovered first hand that he was swindling members when I received a telemarketing call from the NRA requesting I purchase a book Wayne had written. The telemarketer promised that the book would be then become part of the collection of a local library due to a contractual relationship that the NRA claimed to have with a non-existent library organization. Since I had a M.S. in Library Science, had worked in libraries, I knew that no such organization existed and that what the telemarketer was telling me was utter B.S. I called the telemarketer out, and requested the telephone number and address for the non-existent library organization. The telemarketer then admitted that there was no such organization.

I described this scam on one of the gun forums and was roundly denounced by many people as being a liar.

If I could detect a scam on the basis of recognizing that the NRA telemarketer was scamming me, why would people on the Board of Directors who are supposed to be responsible for the organization not recognize that Wayne was a scammer? Wayne did his part to scam NRA members, but the people who were scammed were WILLING PARTICIPANTS because they wanted to believe the organization was working for them, and simply couldn't accept the notion that a scammer is running the organization for his own benefit.

Since NRA members and the Board of Directors were unwilling to clean house, now it is up to dedicated opponents of the 2nd Amendment to do the job because "we" made a decision to look the other way.

Theyre getting fat on the deal too. Dont fool yourself.

Who says they didn't? Might have been willing to overlook that minor detail as long as their perks kept rolling in.

Man, if I had a nickel for every time I've heard/read someone say they've quit giving money to the NRA or let their membership lapse or "WLP has to go", I would have plenty of money to move to a free state. The NRA board members have to be in tune to that. Which tells us just how successfully entrenched Wayne has gotten himself. Emperor for life.

As I've posted in other threads, I'm not likely to be moving away. If I had stupid kinda money like the Powerball a few weeks back, and could move my friends and family as well, then I would have a decision to make. Also, if I was younger, I would have a different perspective. I keep thinking I will be in the ground before Oregon gets so bad that I just can't stand it. However, the speed and downward trajectory just keep increasing. I have a young nephew who fled Oregon for South Dakota last year and he loves it there. I think he has a crush on Governor Noem. I don't have a crush on Brown or Kotek.

I stayed there way too long. I kept thinking it would get better if I tried harder and it kept getting worse no matter what I did. Wasted years of my life and a ton of money before I finally saw the light and left. Now, I couldn't be happier and I look back at that time thinking I was the worlds biggest fool for staying there as long as I did and I left before the BIG crash.

I just described my last marriage.

I was still paying dues when we bought Wayne 20 grand worth of new suits and his Caribbean yachting vacations. That was the last straw for me.

It's too bad the big coup attempt a few years back didn't work -- and tragic that some of the more credible leaders (Oliver North among them) in the NRA were forced out.

And those laws are still on the books and not going anywhere. Why people here seem to think that Measure 114 is going away is beyond me. Better make peace with that.

I was surprised to notice that becoming a NRA member is still a requirement for some gun ranges / gun clubs near me if a person wants to join that group.

This is one of many reasons why I won't go to a range anymore. That, and arduous rules and range Karens. If I can find a piece of land to shoot on that's where I'll go. Maybe one of the cinder pits out in Central Oregon.....I think it's only about 70 miles from me.

That a-hole was voted back in by the board on a 54-1 vote. Anyone who chooses to become an NRA member deserves what they get. I'm sure Wayne appreciates you paying for his suits.

Add me to the life member list who quit funding WLPs habits years ago. I keep the membership since it no longer costs anything for me, and it's a requirement for the range I belong to, but I funnel the $ I used to send them to GOA and SAF.

The travel consultant testified that certain invoices she sent the NRA omitted stops in Nebraska and the Bahamas, at Mr. LaPierre’s request. Some of Mr. LaPierre’s relatives who were frequent travelers on NRA-paid private jets live in Nebraska.

Except this emperor was wearing clothes -- Italian suits he didn't report as income because he thought they were work related... May be, since suits in the Bahamas isn't a thing -- I assume the humidity isn't kind to Italian wool (or silk or whatever)

Did they come to Oregon to hold rallys to fight this?
How much money NRA used in Oregon to fight this measure?
As much as Oregonians donating and memberships probably in small numbers, that could be the reason NRA didn't fight this.

They did almost nothing. They had their rep (can't remember her name) join the call on the racial impact hearing and she read basically a four sentence circle jerk statement that had no authenticity behind it or any substance. It was embarrassing for them.

I was a NRA member back in the early 2000's and let my membership lapse due to lack of $$$ after having kids and becoming single income. I remember them soliciting lots of panic donations but I never really paid attention to them. Lately though, some of my children have been involved in the local Jr Rifle Club and the club receives generous grants from "The Friends of the NRA". I don't see much local support for these programs and this may be the only one. The Jr Rifle Club even has to pay rent at the gun club. The membership of children has dwindled over several years, down to just one of my kids for a period of time. Now there's a few more participants but no where near enough to pass on to the next generation. The coaches are all volunteer, and are spectacular at it. That my rant involving the NRA, let's hope they can oust the proper people and get back on track. I may be an outlier here but have considered joining back up.
