no offense to Joe.. but how is this firearms related? Personally I would love to see our off topic become truly off topic.

Using Windows 10 has an impact on how we browse and view firearm related forums.

I'm also a great bull crap talker.

I don't see any reason to go from Win 7 to 10 if you don't have a touch screen. I'm on a Spectre x360 now and it has a touch screen, so the upgrade seemed like a no-brainer. Can't say there is much of a difference, but I'm still trying to get used to a clunky SSD and 8.1. To be honest, my 4 year old laptop with an early i5 is much faster and smoother than the latest i7 "modern processor", SSD, and OS.

As far as tracking, you have the option of turning that off. Since I travel quite a bit, it's a convenience for time zone and location changes. Anyone that thinks that they don't have a URL trail from their ISP is living in La-La Land!

None taken! I'm not sure how or where the rumor got started that off topic had to be firearm related, but that's never been the case (and I've stated that much). In fact, I'd rather firearm-related posts were posted in the firearm-related sections. I do appreciate you mentioning it though, gives me a chance to set this straight :s0004:

What I have said repeatedly is that all of the rules still apply in the Off Topic section (particularly the non-firearm political stuff).

My best windows moment came many years ago, before the internet was the internet, when forums hadn't really been invented - well web based ones - and FidoNet was thing, and so were News Groups.

I was at the Home Depot, Beaverton South to be specific. They have a book section, still do. In that section was the magazine Windows. Because, of course, Home Depot sells windows. Just not Windows.

As for Win10.

There are some features, which are different. For example I have yet to get WoL from s5 to work. That is a non-issue for most users, who would use WoL for a personal computer? But if you are running a forum, you might need to wake systems to load patches and retrieve logs, and you may want that to work automatically - and know it works in Win7 and Win8 (and XP for that mater) (WoL from S3 / S4 can be configured to work, to wake on a magic packet) (assuming of course the driver and NIC you have support this - to get maximum battery life, certain things are being disabled by the manufacturers)

Therefore, my suggestion is: give it a month or two, then see if there are any reports on features you need or depend upon.

Ads - in Solitare - no wonder they can afford to give it away.

At work we use Win7 ..... it aint broke so we see no need to "fix" it. Also, I never personally "upgrade" to anything right away. Let them get the bugs worked out first, see what the issues are with what hardware and then decide.

My personal machines run Ubuntu 12.x.

OK--let's get it back on the "gun related " track:)

Anybody running New Mexico Gun Collector on Windows 10? Had some issues with it when I
upgraded from XP Pro.

I don't like being an early adopter (aka Beta tester) of these first gen releases. I'm running Win7 and like it. My wife has 8 and hates it, so we may just try it on her laptop and see how it goes before I consider doing any changes on mine.

Since I found out you can downgrade from 10 to previous I may give it a try for a day or two.

Downgrade without having to re-install everything from scratch that is.

Read what "WND" has to say about windows 10. It sounds like MS is collecting everything about you.

There was an option to disable every tracking/data mining at the beginning. Of course any operating system, ISP, web browser can track you with or without your permission.

I disabled all of the tracking at the beginning at setup. They already know everything about us anyway. What's worse is if you don't disable ad tracking...

You know when you go to amazon and you look up Dillon Swagers.. then you are browsing Chuck Hawks or some other site that uses Taboola/AdMatch/etc (even NWFA) there is a cookie stored on your computer that.. ***GASP*** shows relevant ads related to your Amazon.com search.

There is no hiding anymore.

Just upgraded yesterday. Hugely better than 8. The whole idea of a Start screen and a desktop screen vying for me allegiance seemed stupid to me. I'm a keyboard guy (it's much faster) so I just hit the Win key and start typing. That's the same whether 7 or 8 or 10.
