I've heard Ballistol is pretty good, but if i were you, i wouldn't go "down/back" to a more petroleum based product.

Whilst Ballistol is (as far as i know) *based* on petro chemicals, it's more synthetic than most regular CLPs or oils.

Personally, i prefer fully synthetic (not American motor oil type synthetic (which typically isn't)) which isn't really a petro chemical, or Seal1, which is plant based.

I find they're very good in protective/barrier properties, as well as lubrication.
They're also nice to use inside the house and don't have caustic affects on your hands.

I also don't trust 'all in one' products. (clean *and* lube)

My choice products are:

Seal 1 inside and our for all modern firearms.

Break action double: Slip2000 grease (fully synth)

Mil Surp stuff: Slip2000 EWL inside and out and the aforementioned grease for things like the Garand's large contact points.

For *actual* cleaning, i use MPro7 cleaner, again, fine on your hands, doesn't smell really cleans off any dirt, carbon, fouling etc. and leaves a slight protection on the surface to stop any flash rusting before you can lube it up.
