Occasionally bizarre spiders show up that are not seen too often. Around here we have a lot of the common field spiders that build large webs and they can range in color from almost black to a fuzzy bright white. My daughter used to like to watch them all summer with their big egg sacs until the spiderlings hatched and finally tossed silk and blew away - she hated seeing the 'mothers' finally dying in the winter but understood the life cycle of them. One time when my daughter was about eight she was climbing up the motorhome ladder and came back down and said to me "Daddy, Mr. White Spider made a web on the ladder' so I went up to look and a beautiful white field spider had built a large web on the ladder. I told my daughter it was probably an angel that had been sent in spider form to protect us - she got a lot of comfort out of that actually.

    If it's outside it's a live spider.
    In the house?
    Dead spider

Check the government listings in your phone book for an entry similar to "...extension office...", usually a county office. If you have one, as do Idaho counties, then ask for the entomologist. The extension office will usually need to contact one of the universities, so it's not instantaneous.

My guess is a Silver Orb Spider...all we've really got to go by for identification is that striped backside and long, brown legs.

You can argue against my source, but I don't think you will be successful.

    I really don't care about spiders,it's the damn webs I don't like.
And if they are out side killing any flying insect,I like spiders. But any bug that shows itself in my living quarters dies.

I agree. I hate spiders but let them live as long as they stay out of my house.
