I am trying to sell a microtech I have and someone from Arizona is interested. Is it legal for someone in Arizona to own an Auto knife and is it legal for me to sell it to them?
Sale of an automatic knife across state lines is a federal felony. Only way around this is if the knife is shipped in kit form or in two parts so the knife is not operatable.
I used to make automatic knives during the 14 years I was a custom knifemaker.
So it's illegal because its a cross state lines transfer. It's legal to own an Auto in AZ but not ship one from OR to AZ. If I'm wrong please correct me.
Federal law prohibits interstate commerce, ie; shipping across state lines, of auto knives. Taking them apart and shipping the parts does not get around this. Spyderco was charged for both importing balisong parts and for shipping them across state lines.
