I'm debating about buying a tag, but no one I know here hunts. Anyone looking for a hunting partner or willing to offer up some starting points, I'd love to hear from you. Lots of elk hunting experience, just not in Oregon. I'm in Newport.

I have all my own gear and will have Friday - Saturday - Sunday - Monday - Tuesday off work for the 1st season.

Buster, your in Elk heaven right around you.
From south stott Mnt to the Alsea is loaded with Elk.
I do live and hunt here.
Grab a look at google earth and possibly load onXhunt app to your smart phone.
That app will show property owners and much more, it's a great advantage.
There's a lot of elk within 25 miles of downtown Newport, get that tag and get out there!
Good luck to you.

I don't know the Coast Range well for hunting, but I agree with John. You can't be far from fantastic elk hunting grounds. Head east and keep your eyes open.

be ready to hike. in my experience, ive seen more elk on the coast after i hike the "magic mile" into the forest. find a spot on a map that is not near any roads. thats where elk will be.
