I just saw on the RWVA forum that only FIVE out of 30 slots are taken for this event! Come on guys, let's get the lead out and register for this thing! It's less than two weeks away!

I was gonna go but it sounded like my lever action .22 would be too slow paced for the event.

It will be more difficult to make the rifleman score of 210+ on the AQT but not impossible (people do it with bolt actions regularly). There are 150 pts available in the first and fourth stage that have 2+min for each stage (lever action won't be a problem). The second and third stages will be challenging but even if you only get 8 shots in each that's still a possible 80pts for a score well over 210.

You will still learn some valuable marksmanship skills and rich history regardless of what rifle you use.

Most instructors also bring loaner rifles just in case someone is in need.

Appleseed is a 2 day marksmanship training event.

You will learn:
Prone, standing & secondary shooting positions
How to use a sling for stability (Hasty, Hasty/Hasty & Loop sling)
The 6 steps to taking the shot
Inches Minutes Clicks for zeroing your rifle and distance shooting
and more

We go through about 400 rounds through the two days and most of it is done at 25m so the ideal rifle is a semi auto, mag fed, .22 w/a GI style sling; however, you can shoot any rifle that is safe and the host range allows. Bolt actions, lever actions, tube fed, AR's, AK's, SKS are all common on the firing line.

This is a very family/novice friendly event. It's an excellent opportunity to introduce spouses and children to the sport we love. If you're an experienced shooter, you will gain a few new tools for your range bag of tricks. Even if you are primarily a pistol shooter the skills you learn apply.

Throughout the day you will hear stories about the people/events of April 19th 1775 as the most important day in American history. You will hear about how one person can make a difference and hopfully come away with a stronger sense of what being an American is all about.

You will need a rifle, ammo (~400rnds), lunch, water bottle, hat, shooting mat (carpet remnants work) and a chair.

Cost varies by participants and location.

There is an event this weekend at Douglas Ridge (30min SE of PDX), another one in Aerial, WA (1hr NE of PDX) Nov 3 & 4 and then again at Douglas Ridge on Nov 10 & 11.

You can shoot just one day but most of the skills are tought on Sat & then honed on Sunday. For the full benefit you really want to be at both days.

Hope you come out and give us a try. You will not be dissapointed.
