Anyone enlighten me on use of suppressors in combat?

For some reason I was only issued this (photo below), a case of 9V batteries and a VS-17 panel. They also gave me a special name tape...IFFOUNDRETURNTO ...they said it was to honor a heroic Pathfinder.

Many have that annoying tuning fork ring to them, the FOSSA does not and it is on par with the BE Meyer 249F and Smith Enterprise Vortex flash hiders in terms of flash suppression.
