Heard this on the radio this morn.
Something about they've hired a dedicated officer(s) to investigate all failed BG checks.
If you already have mandatory BG checks in Oregon, might as well enforce the Law when a violent felon stupidly attempts to buy through an FFL.
False failures? I don't know? Will they bust in your door at night in SWAT gear and take you away until you're cleared?
That story is dated July 2014. One of the giveaways was the fact that Gov. Kitzhaber was referenced as still in office.
Sounds like old news.
Old or not it's back in the News as I did hear it on the Radio today.
It scared me for a moment - I thought that Kitz was back!!
He's still haunting us all.
Even more frightening would be if his partner came back!!!
Although I do admit that she really knew how to use tissue paper effectively at press conferences:
That article was written in 2014 and we are just enforcing these laws now?????
Inept Oregon.... Just a move by Brown to get elected....
Old First off Kitzhaber is gone, so the question is does this new Gov. support this?
if so fire her when the time comes. Me I'm a GOA supporter, and they don't' support any Gun laws even as far back as NFA so there....
I like the OR State Police I have met. Dedicated professionals.
Reading these documents on several state sites
Firearm Disqualifiers Clear and to the point.
Firearm Denial Reports from June 2014 to December 2015. Very few in my opinion.
This doesn't account for other entities that stir the pot.
A dear friend won a shotgun in a christmas raffle (2015), still hasn't been able to collect it.
He was contacted by a fed in Kansas City asking about a juvenile record in 1954.
Was told he would have to submit his version in his own hand to that office.
He has an unblemished record since then, including military service, and an OR CC.
Ya Like stated though if your of the "shall not be infringed" crowd then, these would be infringements.
Mainly against all these because as you see that list is getting increased all the time. and being able to get your rights back are getting harder to do. This stuff is just feel good stuff to make it seem like their doing something especially since it's been on the books since 1968. But if peoples support these laws then where does it stop? meaning it's found that Gum for some reason has to have a legal age of 18 to buy so a 16 year old tries to buy it he gets arrested and even more stuff thrown at him?
Which is why I support Gun owners of America rather than NRA they don't compromise.
Yea this was my FIRST thought about it - along with other potential problems with the 'enforcement' of a failed BGC. And I was unaware of it until I heard it in the new yesterday as a LIVE broadcast.
They are not just starting to do this, this was happening before Kitzhaber left.
Somehow I think if it was an illegal alien they would either not investigate or no would happen with them.
So does this mean if they investigate and find they shouldn't have been denied they are immediately approved?
I can see this being helpful (all though very socialist) for cases of mental health issues and preventing shootings/mass shootings.
I feel like this law is just another way for the liberals to gain info (forced registry) and find reasons for denial or charges.
Either way this law will cause more people to side step the laws
This was just announced in a press conference yesterday by Jay Inslee, WA govorner that he is going to be doing the same here in WA. He is asking the state patrol to work out a way to get it done. He did mention that if Oregon could do it no reason we can't do it also.
More political posturing, any way to keep their anti rhetoric out in front of the public. Yes it is a law, certain criminals can't have firearms as it should be, been that way for a long time and we keep asking them why they don't enforce this law, so now they are. The only reason it's in the news is politics, nothing else, now that they've realized a way to use this as a club, they're gonna use it and the way I see it, it'll be just like the rest, guilty until proven innocent and it'll be up to you, your time and wallet. JMHO
There was an article in the Statesman-Journal this week that stated they were adding the position over in Central Oregon and that they already had 3 officers on the west side. How many arrests have been made by the three? That's a sarcastic question.
I personally don't see this as a bad thing. It will keep some rif raf from trying to buying...um...legally,at least. And if they aren't supposed to have guns then they should be held accountable. It will make it look better on the whole.
Now for those who get false denials,it may be a good thing. Then they will have documentation when the officer finds they shouldn't have been denied.
