I'm pretty sure George Orwell was not in favor of gun control...

"That rifle on the wall of the labourer's cottage or working class flat is a symbol of democracy. It is our job to see that it stays there."
Andy

I just got this from a Swedish poster over on muzzleloadingforums.com - BTW, he has a near-mint Remington New Model Army BP revolver and is trying to get to shoot it with all that carp they have to go through in Sweden - sound familiar?

Quote -

Yeah even the hunters etc in sweden who actually got a license can't use the guns for self defense otherwise they go to jail for murder. Even if they are getting killed by robbers...

The licenses are very hard to get and even if you drive your car 10 km/h too fast they will take your guns...out and get into a fight? They take your guns even if you're not the one who started....etc...it's q crazy country. i know many hunters and they are all in fear 24/7 to loose their guns for crap you wouldn't even think about.

NOT just the UK, then, right?

I read his posts as well. I had mistakenly thought Sweden was less 'constrained' with gun ownership - and I believe it was at one time - but obviously not now.
I live in UK, I have 22 guns.

He lives in Sweden - 'land of the free' - and cannot have more than six, and no multiples of same calibre guns.

Quote -
Here's how the Swedish system works: Only responsible people are trusted with firearms. Sweden licenses guns in much the same way we license cars and drivers. You can have up to six guns but can get more with special permission.

To apply for a firearm permit you must first take a year-long hunter training program and pass a written and shooting test. You can also apply for a gun permit if you've been a member of an established shooting club for six months.

In addition to undergoing training, Sweden's gun owners must store their firearms safely. Guns must be locked away in a vault, not stored beneath your car seat or in the nightstand where your kids can find them.

Responsibility in Sweden goes further yet: Convicted of a felony? No guns for you. Beat your wife? No guns. Under a restraining order? No guns. Drive drunk? No guns.

(The gun law does not spell out specific actions that cause a citizen to be "unfit" to have a gun permit. It does say that the police must have a "reasonable cause" to suspend a permit, and these kinds of things might signal that a gun owner is "unfit.")

Even so, being responsible is not such a tough job. Sweden denies permits to only about 1,000 people a year (out of 600,000 permit holders), and they can appeal their rejection to the courts.

For instance, I have seven .22cal rifles...in Sweden, that will never happen.

It sure to make me laff when you guys state with such certainty that UK gun laws suck and everybody else is really free and easy. I'll let you look up gun laws in Germany, where you are not allowed to shoot on YOUR OWN LAND.

Well I never considered Sweden to be the 'land of the free' and just a while back I was reading a synopsis of some of their laws and regulations however aside from gun ownership Sweden's military seems to be a convoluted mess.

At one time it was somewhat stable, even considering it's somewhat mandatory commitment however not so much now.

Slightly misleading - Scotland has been left off completely, home of hill-stalking and thousands of rifles. So has Northern Ireland, the only place in the UK where ordinary cartridge-firing handguns are permitted. The island of Ireland contains TWO countries - the Republic of Oreland, where 90% of ALL guns are rural shotguns, and Northern Ireland, part of the UK - see above. The population of the UK is also 68 million, not 58 million.

As for number of firearms - between me and two other members of my club we have almost a hundred. rifles and carbines....

Video games and movies glorify firearms far more than gun channels on youtube and instagram. But because games and movies are "art" nothing is said about those.

As seen with Balwins most recent manslaughter of a person on set.. there is a clear difference between the appreciated safety of gun channels and the sloppy safety practiced amongst those in DC and Hollywood that are anti gun. You would think someone that is outspoken against guns would be hyper aware and safe around them.. but instead they put their fingers on the trigger when manipulating the action, they use the incorrect nomenclature, and when in court they place their finger on the trigger and muzzle sweep those in the courthouse in their attempt to demonize the firearm.

Heck, even Hunter Bidens wife/gf/prostitute can improperly dispose of a firearm in a public rubbish bin exposing any passerby or sanitary worker to danger and zero charges come of it as it is swept under the rug. Or another.. a person who is currently the president can give illegal advice and tell citizens to indiscriminately fire a shotgun out their door to scare people off.. he never had to correct himself (that I saw).. but clearly that act is very illegal in most areas and a sitting president suggested to do so without walking it back (that Ive seen).

Same here, but I'm usually up by then. If I'm not, then l slept through it and probably for good reason.

One of those little dinosaurs got out yesterday and teased my dog through the fence for hours (til the owner came home and put him/her back).

They're big and they look mean as hell... beautiful plumage tho.
Sounds like my son-in-laws chickens. They look like the late Phyllis Diller.

I am guessing that the # of registered guns in America is way off, new gun sales have been registered for many moons now.

Yep Australia, New Zealand, etc. The list is long with places that have much more restrictions than even New York or California. We should do our very best to keep Oregon from becoming more like these other places.
