A buddy has a 260 and wants me to check in to what it is. I am asking you guys to tap that wealth of knowledge out there. He didn't give me much more than "I think I've got a 260, scoped up....."
Any help will be passed on.
A 260 (Rem?) is a 243 Win necked up to 6.5 mm or a 308 Win necked down to 6.5 mm or .264 inches. It works in the same actions as 243 and 308's.
Its a good deer and less round. Bullets can be had from 85 grains to 140 grains. IMO, the most general bullet for it is a 120 grain bullet going bwtn 2850-2950 fps.
Actually , .260 Rem bullets are avaiable up to 160 gr. I have a Kimber Montana in .260 and wouldn't hesitate using it on Elk. Norwegian Elk (what we call moose) are taken with the 6.5x55 / 6.5 Swede, the most popular caliber in Norway. The .260 Rem can be loaded to approx. 200 FPS faster than the 6.5x55.
It is extremely accurate at long range. It's being tested and considered as a replacement long range sniper round by the military.
