I received an email discussing GOOOH (Get out of our House) an approach to elect all new representatives (read no career pols.) to the House of Representatives....

Does anybody have any thoughts or information...

I must admit...I find the idea intriguing...

Wheeler, I just don't see how we are going to rid ourselves of the debt that is ruining us even if we do rid ourselves of everyone in government. It will take at least the removal of every bueracrat along with all our elected officials to turn this around in my opinion. The cost of government is beyond our ability to pay, we are broke.

Obama gave Fannie and Freddie an open credit card and they allready have spent 6.3 trillion. We have 14 trillion in debt now plus the 6.3 trillion and they won't stop spending. We are in it up to our ears and the government is stepping on our heads. We need to rid ourselves of the progressives in both parties and start living by the Constitution again.

Just my opinion

Upsides of this idea: there are tons of them, and they're pretty obvious.

Downside: The process of making laws is complicated. Just as with any other job, it takes time to learn how to do it well. Having a legislature made entirely of new members can lead to unelected career lobbyists and unelected career staffers managing the legislative process instead of elected career politicians.

This is why term limits have never really taken off. You end up with the same type of mess as before, with less control and management. Having so many career politicians doesn't do us many favors, but they're not the fundamental source of our problems.

That is what this is purportedly about..The founders created the house and its' responsibilities to be the voice of the common person...That is why the number of reps is governed by population....

The "charter" that they propose is supposed to limit lobbyists access and make them the peoples representatives......

I guess i'm a little Pollyannaesque (new word ) in that I have hope....

My folks ran away last time we were this close to SHTF (yep, we've been there before)..I plan on at least tryin' something...

I strongly dislike the two party system, as it has evolved in this nation....I strongly dislike the massive bureaucracy that the system has spawned....I strongly dislike the welfare given to those that would lick their masters boots for entitlements, Whether the boots are red or blue...................

Maybe I'll give this a whirl 'cause it's better than doin' nuthin' besides waitin'...besides...I like a good fight....and I always bet the underdog..

JJ...I've been readin' that stuff since the "Ruff Times" just to date myself a little.....But as I've said before....We've been there (or darn close to it) before....Things are grim, I'll give ya that...I have never, in my thirty years in the trades been unemployed.. 'til Dec 2009 that is...

I just don't wanna go back to pickin' scratch with the chickens in some podunk hole in the wall like where and how I grew up..

And I want better and will work towards better for my grand kids (I don't have 'em quite yet) and their kids despite what the (censored) in DC wanna do..

Go for it. The only way we can fight the massive institutions (public, private, etc.) that hold the reins of power in this country is to get involved as individuals and in real social movements. Bureaucracy and corruption thrive on passivity and acceptance.

Until you rid the area of the poison snakes you can't live in it. What is about to happen is the progressives are crashing the country and maybe the world (Globalism). They will make times desperate enough that people will join them in their socialist ways. Socialism never works for the people but gives power and wealth to those who lord over us.

When the progressives are ready, meaning they have used the stimulus money for slush fund in setting up their base, they will crash us big time. That will be the time of decision as to being a free man or a slave. If it were not for our ability to own guns that decision would have been made for us long ago.

Not really much of a choice there - it's either free man or corpse for me, and I don't plan on stinkin' up the place...

No question - every time they have a chance to slow the financial damage down a bit - they throw on more gas on the fire. You can't really believe that the elite of this country are just stupid - they know full well what they are doing. The net effect of every action they have taken through this financial "crisis", which they created, has been to consolidate the real wealth of this nation into the hands of the wealthy elite. Its a long and sad story, but what we are facing is the total destruction of everything we hold dear as americans. Maybe it can be reversed peacefully by waking up enough people to what is happening, or maybe it will soon be time to sew up your skirt and go to the show. I'm praying for the former, and preparing for the latter.

Now maybe people will understand why so many of us fought for our gun rights. If it were not for those before you that stood up and made the sacrifices you would have even a choice. It's why conservatism is good and capitalism builds wealth while socialism steals all that is important to us.

People need to wake up.

Wheeler, this looks like good old-fashioned grass roots politics, the kind people like us have neglected for years while the lefties took over school boards, city councils and park districts.

I daresay the TeaParty folks are doing a very good job of getting themselves organized, and sending someone to Washington who's not a politician is as real a possibility as it's ever been. People are fed up, left and right, because as JustJim says the powers that be have screwed it up bigtime and it might not be fixable.

I believe that's why a lot of these scum are "retiring" early. They know the can has been kicked down to the very end of the road, and they're going to leave the next guy to face the music when the gov't teat goes dry for good.

I tend to agree with JJ; it's broke for good, and we're going to have to scrap it and start over and that is going to be ugly. Which is why I wonder why anyone in their right mind would want to go into politics NOW, of all times. Maybe the folks who are getting involved have the same optimism as you, or are not quite as cynical as I am.

There's a guy right here on the west side who has a chance:

<broken link removed>

Full disclosure, I know the guy, work for him, call him a friend. He's NOT a career politician; how many politicians do you know buy a booth at the Gunshow and hang out all weekend?

if folk like us don't wake up and do things like stand for office, and work to seat good men who do, then work hard to support them once in, it WILL be all in for us. I believe a return to the Constitution, and its limited national powers, is, while a bit short of perfect, a very viable persuit. Rid ourselves of the career politicians, get in people who will REPRESENT US, (as opposed to powerful special interests), and maybe we CAN turn things around soon enough to prevent the lot of us running off the cliff and into the sea. A thorough house cleaning is needed. Toss the rubbish, polish up and use the good stuff.

As to turning everyone out and starting with a clean slate.... remember, the Framers established that House representatives are seated for four year terms, half being elected in each bi-ennium. This, the half of them remain in office as the remaining half start their new terms. Thus, we never will face the situation where ALL are replaced at the same time. Two years should be sufficient for intelligent and dedicated Representatives to learn enough to be effective. And if they're not intelliegent and dedicated, WHY would we elect them?

I agree, today's farce of a two-party system is bankrupt. Hopefully, some new blood in our legislative branch would have the guts to open that up. Why can't we have candidates from five parties come into the primaries? And WHY the special treatment of the two "major" parties, the reality of which is one party in a bicoloured suit.
