Think about how many more "quality" firearms you could buy and shove in your shed with all that beer money.

Or do you need the beer to forget the poor choices in the financial department when it comes to the guns you bought?

I kid. I kid.

I drink more infrequently these days but beer is no longer on the menu (except for cabin trips). These days it's Lady Bligh Spiced Rum in the 1/2 gallon ($20) and cheap soda. I can't figure out why the Lady Bligh is stocked on the bottom shelf instead of the top shelf.

I like my rum like my guns, classy.

12 years for me this July. For me personally, it's the most positively impactful choice I've made.

Since I've become kind of a connoisseur of 'em, my favorite N/A beers in unranked rankings:
1. Old Milwaukee N/A tastes identical to the real stuff. A super chilly one is heaven after some yard work.
2. Bottled Stella Artois still has that skunky funky I like.
3. Anything from Athletic Brewing is good.
4. Clausthaler is a solid choice, esp the dry-hopped for IPA freaks.
5. St Pauli Girl if a bar doesn't have any of the other choices.

Honorable non-beer mention: Lagunitas Hoppy Refresher.

Least faves:
Asahi 0.0 and pretty much all n/a stouts. Some things weren't meant to have the booze taken out of 'em.

Deschutes had some good NAs. Along with Heineken 0.0 and the Corona NA is pretty close to the original. As far as I can remember but it's been awhile.

The NA liquors on the other hand are gross!

Stopped weekday drinking and already dropped 3 pounds. It was only a beer or two each day, but it'll put the pounds on.

My excuse was that if I work out I can "Earn it"...LOL.

My sister had become an alcoholic. It was her wedding day when she decided that she needed to change. She admitted herself to rehab on my birthday, as a gift to me. I will never forget that phone call, her sitting in the parking lot of the rehab facility, wishing me a Happy Birthday, admitting herself as a gift to me. Got my sister back that day. . .

I was never a big drinker, social drink once in a while. Out of solidarity for her, my wife and I also committed to not drinking going forward, to support her. That was in 2018, so she's on year 6, and so proud of her! Completely changed her life. She has had two healthy kids since then, and is doing really well.

During the heart of Covid, in 2020, I got diagnosed as 'pre-diabetic'. It scared the hell out of me, since it runs in the family. Besides completely changing my diet, I vowed to cut ALL refined sugar out if my diet that day. I have not had ANY refined sugar since. That is NOT easy, as sugar is in EVERYTHING. Once you get over the sugar addiction, it makes a big difference. . .

That used to be my schedule as well but eventually decided to quit altogether and never looked back. For me, it was one of the best decisions I've made.

I am curious how quiting completely was a game-changer, if you only drank occasionally prior to quitting completely?

Edit: I only eat out occasionally but would like to cut it out completely. My wife and family won't like it but I thought I could convince them that it's life changing.

I drank a fifth of whiskey a night….. so moderation wasn't my strength. When I quit I started working out instead. Dropped 20+ pounds instantly. Plus mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually I was in a much much better place.

I'm doing dry January for the third time and it's a piece of cake. I never drink at home, it repulses me for some reason. Plus I watch my football like it's Mission Control and I don't want to be drunk for any of that. I would quit drinking entirely but so much of our social lives are tied up in alcohol.

I was drinking too much in December, 99% on Friday nights. I love meeting new people and I love the bull sessions, but I don't like the cost ($) and I don't like being hungover and having things to do the next day. Part of being middle-aged is this endless cycle of responsibility (family, work, friends) and people don't give an eff that I've been out drinking. They will hold me to my commitments.
