I found myself drinking too much and drinking every day for about the last six months. I'm retired and only drink at home.
I went to the Dr. in December.
They gave me an alcohol survey; about three pages long. Seeing it written down made me think about it
Then, I had some lab work & found that my liver tests were on the wrong side of the scale. So… I decided to take part in Dry January. It's going ok but I do miss having a drink or two during football games.
Oh yeah, I've lost snout six ponds.

Any body else doing Dry Jan?

bubblegum no.

But good on your for your weight loss.

I've seen people do the 'Dry January' thing in the past only to heavily make up for it in the first 2 weeks of February.

Turns out I can't drink Whiskey/Burbon or Beer/Ale. I can drink rum and brandy. But I very rarely do.m usually just Christmas and New Years. I haven't had a drink yet this year.

I can drink wine, red only, like Merlot and Cab. But I don;t keep any alcohol in the house. I haven a fatty liver, so I rarely if ever drink. I haven't had a a genetic and auto immune condition that makes me have to skip most grains and hops.

Good luck OP. When I want a drink, I usually go for raspberry iced tea.

Good on ya & anyone else who takes personal responsibility for their own health. Nice!

We rarely drink, have a bit of a bar stocked mildly at home. Rarely touched. Even rarer drinks out.

No particular reason, other than the empty calories were getting to be too much years back (beer & wine).

Again, nothing wrong with drinking reasonably & responsibly tho.

I've been dry for a while now. Between that and other changes, just healthier all around — physically, mentally, and spiritually. To each their own and best of wishes, OP, with your goals. :)

Along with alcohol banish high fructose corn syrup. HFCS is the leading cause of liver cirhosis with alcohol as number 2. It's chemically just as hard as alcohol to process and it's in everything. Dr. Sten Ekberg has some very good Youtube videos on liver health that are well worth the watch.

Went dry last March, it's the rare occasion that I drink. A wee dram or so of Angels Envy rye on Christmas Day. A swallow of bubbly New Year's Eve with the wifey. Otherwise dry. Don't miss it, but do have it available should I take a hankering for a drink.

That glass mug is Andy's on the right ....... ;)

No I am not.....as I post with a Guinness at hand......:D
I enjoy my drink...however not to excess.
Andy
Guinness makes a NA beer that isn't bad at all. Being sober I still enjoy the aspect of having a drink when I get home or at social events. Luckily there is a huge selection of NA beers nowadays.

Good to know that some NA beer has a decent taste.
It has been awhile since I have tried a NA beer....but the few that I did try...tasted a lot like anything but beer.
Which I suppose is better than 'butt beer"..... :D

Pretty sure i got 12 years in??
Definitely over a Dime on the alcohol free clock. I use every penny I formerly drank on guns , ammo and stabby things.

Hey OP , put your drinkin money in a jar every day and see what's piled up by spring. You might be pleasantly surprised at the amount.

I had to look up .....turnt

adjective
under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
"I got really turnt up and left with some girls"
excited or energized.
"they pick up where they left off, only in a more turnt up way"
