I hear rumors about hogs around Montesano WA. Someone tried to hunt down there? I simply don't want to spend time for nothing.
I've heard the rumors, and we've covered some ground up there, but never seen any sign (no scat, no wallows, no 'rototilled' areas).
No need to exterminate them. Just think of them as your SHTF mobile ribs and bacon supplies. Oh yeah, and ham and sausage too.
Wild hogs on the Olympic Peninsula is simply a rumor. The closest area I've heard of for hunting wild hog is in SW Idaho, Owyhee County to be exact. It's been about a year since I look at Idaho's Department of Fish and Game website, but I have a feeling there still there. BTW, Grunwald...yes exterminate the damn things. While they are great hunting and eating, they are an invasive species and do enormous damage to agriculture. If that's the price for having wild hog in Washington, then I'd rather do without.
Found this article from the Seattle PI newspaper that was interesting reading about feral pigs...3 Northwest states launch feral pig campaign - seattlepi.com I also found this National Feral Swine Mapping System site...don't know how accurate it is, but if it is, I just might have to help out my Oregonian neighbors...NFSMS: National Feral Swine Mapping System:::::::::::::::::::::SCWDS Lab
