Hunger Stone : The recent droughts in Europe once again made visible the "Hunger Stones" in some Czech and German rivers. These stones were used to mark desperately low river levels that would forecast famines.

This one, in the Elbe river, is from 1616 and says: "If you see me, cry"

So if the waters were that low hundreds of years ago such that they could write on stones, what does that say about 'climate change' now?....

With respect to prepping for a food shortage, does it matter whether the climate change is due to humans or is cyclic?

You still need to prep for it, because you can still starve while denying it is human caused.

Agree completely, need to be prepared regardless of the cause.

I just prefer more honesty in the root cause cause conversation, rather than having smoke blown up my azz, ruining the autopsy.

Remember back in the 1970's how the oceans were going to rise and flood the coasts, Las Vegas was going to be ocean front property, or we are all going to be fried because of damage to the ozone layer…

Yup, coastal properties in the 1970's are still coastal properties today, like and behold, we've not fried yet either…

And now they've passed their new green deal under the guise of getting us out of this recession. :s0054:

Just can't make this stuff up….

Years ago I had a conversation about the Depression with my 99 year old aunt. I asked my aunt how difficult it was for them during that time. She said they had always been poor and got by because they were farmers (my people had always been farmers until my parent's generation), so the only real impact it had on them was that coffee and sugar got to be hard to come by. That fact stuck, and was one of the many reasons I bought land back in the day and started my homesteading journey. There are sugar substitutes (stevia plant, sugar beets, maple or birch trees), and there are coffee substitutes (dandelion roots, chicory, black tea), so start thinking about supplementing your supplies with substitutions as well. In many places you can grow tea plants and if you have a greenhouse you can grow both tea plants and coffee bushes year round. You can also buy bulk green coffee beans that last nearly forever (especially if you vacuum seal them), and roast them as you need them. A stove top stir-handled popcorn maker is great for roasting coffee beans at home.

Anyway, a lot of people recently have been talking about looming food shortages. I don't know if that will come to pass or not, but I've been thinking about my Aunt Ruby a lot lately and what she said. Think about what you use most and find a way to supply that for at least a month. Having food and supplies stored to survive long winters used to be the norm. In my opinion we all need to get back to that way of thinking, sooner rather than later.

I do like my Fear Porn, but everything has to be reviewed skeptically. Many doom and gloomers have sang the same song for many years. The 'events' since 2020 and all the fear mongering really set us down a rocky road however.

Love the voice.

My answer has changed from "no, not concerned" to "very concerned". Not for myself, necessarily, but for all those people in the chick-fil-a line that can't cook for themselves or feed themselves without an app.

Man, this famine could match the one when Mao ZeDog was in charge...

If they are actually reporting numbers that bad, odds are it's even worse. The article says people were ordered to shut off AC units to conserve power, so with 106 degree temps I bet folks are dropping like flies from dehydration. Toss in a drastically reduced food supply... yeah, they have some serious problems on their hands.

I never met anyone that liked watching Joe Burden sniff little kids before...
But I guess to each their own 🤢

All joking aside, I am wondering (since you KNOW the one thing that will survive all this; and probably contribute to it) is if there will start to be more of a focus on killing and culling wild hogs around the US. maybe even an industry formed for getting that protein in other places it hasn't already invaded.
At least that part could be a win-win.
