Anyone here know anything about antique wood stoves? It's time to clean up and get rid of all the junk lying around here. I wonder if this old thing is worth anything at all, or just old junk to haul off?

So apparently in Oregon it is illegal to sell a wood stove that's not "certified" :rolleyes:
" It is unlawful to sell or offer to sell a new or used uncertified wood stove or fireplace insert in Oregon. The links below provide information to help you meet disposal requirements for uncertified wood stoves and fireplace inserts: "

it also seems to say you gotta notify the DEQ of the removal and ",disposal" of such if it was formerly installed in a house???? Maybe your best avenue is to sell to out-of-State buyers, if not, then scrap seems the only way in Oregon, regardless of collectibility?

Some of those old parlor stoves are quite valuable. I would call Buck's Stove Palace and see what they say;

Buck can & will talk your ears off. Anything he says regarding antique & modern wood stoves, or installation codes, will be solid info. His own collection of old stoves is huge and he has a wealth of pertinent knowledge. As for what's legal - or not - he is literally the guy who wrote the code book.

Lots of people would happily buy that or any other functional wood stove. Certifications or none. Particularly for outbuildings and shops. I know of two people who recently installed high quality 1970's-90's wood and pellet stoves in their homes....one a Fisher and the other a Breckwood (?) pellet stove. Both are very happy with the installs and the heat output.

Installs of older wood burning units occur all the time. A safe installation is more important than a sticker on the back of the stove. Know going in insurance can be a problem.

40+ years ago I installed my wood stove into a new house I had built for myself. I did the install per the National Building Code. The city was using another building code and refused to approve my install. Told the inspector to leave. They sent me notices for 6 months then cancelled the permit. Luckily the house itself had been finaled a year earlier.

I heated the house for the next 35 years with that wood stove.

Ill buy it for the right price, no questions asked. And if someone does ask its for a planter box, I promise. I know exactly where I am going to put it too.

The only thing I will say past that is I am not actually a collector, so I would not pay collector prices. I just want it for the utility value, which is not all that much when you consider what else is available.

This one must not be worth much if anything. I called Buck's Stoves and he just said to email a photo, which I did, with no response. Maybe I'll put it on Craigslist for a few dollars, see if anyone wants it for decoration. If not, I guess it's just scrap metal.

Illegal wood stove, you say? Easy. Don't use it to burn wood.

Use it to burn tires and Spotted Owls.

We put a noncertified woodstove in our house back in 2017. The main thing you need to deal with his insurance. We called our insurance company and told them that we were installing a non-permitted stove in our house and wanted to know what it would take to have them insure it. They told us as long as we were only using it as a secondary heat source that then they could include it in our insurance coverage and that if it burnt the house down, it wouldn't affect our ability to be insured by them.

Well that was quick! I put it up on Craigslist, stuck a price of $140 on it just to see what would happen. It just drove off with a very nice but very, uh, "Portland", young couple who was happy and excited to get it. :)
