I'm getting these social security calls once a day right now. I also had someone call me and say they're from the utility company, and that because of my past due balance, they were shutting off power to my business in the next hour, unless I sent Western Union payment within the next 30 min. I asked, "A big company like you doesn't take credit cards?"

He says, "For extremely delinquent accounts they need guaranteed payment". I told him I'm on autopay and that Visa is a guaranteed form of payment. He says due to some accounting error my payments were going somewhere else and they can take care of everything after I make the payment to avoid shutoff.

I ask, "Which company is this?". He says your power company. I ask which company. He said "Your power company, you know? I tell him there's more than one in town, which one?

Robocalls are a big psyop from TPTB. One more thing to push us all to the big AI cloud in the sky. Their plan is to frustrate us all to bloody hell via robocalls and other life annoyances. Once they get us totally exasperated it will be easier for them to push their big AI solution. Call it skynet or whatever, it's coming. (Tin foil not included.)

Most times these calls don't leave a message. We have a and line, and the cell is what Wifey takes with her to work being as her employees will not answer a phone call but will respond to texts. Luckily the cell gets very few junk calls. As far as the land line goes, if it rings and I don't recognize I don't answer anymore.

This scam has running rampant for most of 2019. What angers me the most is that these halfwits have conned people out of ~$19m as of March.

A little common sense? Who's the halfwits? If they believe the IRS is calling them to get money? Or that they missed jury jury duty and the sheriff is going to come and arrest them? (Had that one myself and was racking my brain at how I could have missed it. Never got to the part about how I can pay the fine over the phone) etc. The dumb in America are breeding more dumb at record numbers.

My MIL is 93 and lives alone. She got a call saying her grandson, my nephew, was in jail and she needed to go to the bank and withdraw $8000.00 to pay his bail and they would have someone pick it up.
Yep, she went to the bank and withdrew the $. Luckily, she decided to call the grandsons house and he answered the phone. He freaked out and called a friend who lives close by to go over to her house and watch over her. The friend also took her back to the bank to redeposit the $. Then he spent the rest of the day and evening with her in case anyone showed up.
The callers prey on old folks as they don't think as clear as they used to.
She now knows to tell any callers wanting anything to call me or my wife.

They did call the police, Dallas OR, and they were not interested. They told her to call the state atty's office.

I get an email scam that a hacker has tracked my porn habits on line and that he's going to show everyone he knows if I don't pay him.

So.

Guys.

I have to apologize to you all because I won't pay so you may be seeing me soon...

ALL this can be resolved/stopped if the FCC would do their part!!
Problem is they don't care.

As several have said, I don't answer the land line, period.
Leave a message. No message= not worth my time.

Cell phone gets answered by number recognition based on my contact list.

Then there are those who use a cell phone and an "app" to place calls (pranksters) from any number they input in.
In otherwards, I've received calls from my home phone number, to my cell phone. When I'm in the vicinity of both.
The calls can also come from known numbers and appear legit.

All this CRAP, the FCC can put a STOP too, IF they wanted too.

Yet another reason to not let Google/FB/et. al. see your contacts on your phone.

Not to get off topic, but I'm fed up with all the robo-calls to my cell phone. So unless I know you and the number I don't even answer it anymore. Sorry in advance for the topic drift.
I was trying to call you 29 times to donate to NJ police departments.

I get those calls a lot. And its annoying cause I can't tell who is calling with my headset, and can't look while driving.

My Mother-In-Law [thick German accent just makes it better]: "Hello?"

Caller: "Hi Mom!"

MIL: "Hello... who is dis?"

Caller: "It's your son!"

MIL: "Dis is funny because my son is here mit me now, you son of a b__!"

Today I got about 18 calls from "Apple Inc" saying something about how I have to call them back right away blah blah blah... I wasn't home and they left all these messages (this was my land line, not my cell phone). The interesting thing is that when I blocked the number I noticed it was several different phone numbers all saying "Apple inc". Very tricky.

Apple's next version of iOS will let you set all calls from numbers not in your address book to go directly to voicemail and never ring.

I got those at something like once every hour or two one day. The (robotic?) lady had a dire tone to her voice, kinda' creepy. They were all the same number though. Easy block with Comcast , *69, last number that called you house.

I have 5 people in my contacts list.
If I get a call from someone not on that list the spam blocker I use
blocks the call and notifies me with a 'beep'.
I used to get quite a few beeps. It's down to one or two a month now.
I guess even they learn after a while.
I have never understood the pathological need to answer every phone call.
What? Afraid you'll miss winning the Nigerian lottery?........
Owning a cell phone has turned into a liability at times.

I have never understood the pathological need to answer every phone call.

I'm on the fence with this too but there are many contacts I have that aren't saved and people who may be calling for the first time, insurance people from a car vs bike my son was in, job related etc.
