It will seem that car drove aggressively -- it's true except that happened after the driver got shot (and even after being shot, avoids striking rioters as much as possible): slowmo, zoomed in:

Provo Police statement in full unmangled by MSM:
Provo City Police were made aware of a planned Police Rally and a Counter protest scheduled for last night. Both events coincided without incident until 8:38 pm when a call was received regarding possible gun shots and a hit and run.

Shortly thereafter, we received another call regarding a shooting victim at Utah Valley Hospital. Numerous citizens and protestors provided video footage. A white SUV was driving south on University Avenue before pulling into the right turn lane in an attempt to turn onto Center Street. Several protestors began crowding around the vehicle. A male protestor ran to the SVU on the passenger side, pointed a handgun at driver and shot one round through the window.

The driver, who was struck by the bullet, hit the gas trying to leave the situation.

The same protestor ran after the vehicle and shot a second round that went through the rear passenger window. The video then shows that the protestor conceals the firearm and continues to protest.

This same protestor later approached another vehicle at 500 North and University Avenue striking and breaking the window with the handgun. We are grateful for the photos and videos we’ve received and we are following all leads.

If anyone has video or photos of the incident at Center Street and University Avenue, please contact Detective Patterson at npatterson@provo.org.
Two arrests have been made, again Provo PD full statement:
Mr. Jesse Taggart has been arrested in connection with the shooting in downtown Provo last night. Mr. Taggert is a 33-year-old resident of Salt Lake City. He was booked at the Utah County Jail for the following charges:

Attempted Aggravated Murder, Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Rioting, Threatening Use of a Weapon in a Fight or Quarrel, Criminal Mischief, Firing a Weapon Near a Highway.

Police also arrested Samantha Darling, 27-year-old resident of Ogden City, and booked her into custody at the Utah County Jail for a charge of Obstruction of Justice and Rioting.

The Provo Police Department extends its thanks to citizens who gave evidence and testimony to investigators and to allied agencies and officers who assisted this investigation, notably Ogden and Salt Lake City Police Departments.

The investigation of criminal acts incident to protest events in Provo last night is ongoing.

If you have information about the identity of persons involved in damage to vehicles, please contact Det. Nick Patterson at npatterson@provo.org.

That driver showed extreme restraint even after being shot. All the shooter did was project fear and to any driver approaching a crowd that's illegally in the street.

What a tinderbox.

Garth Brooks wrote a song with, “he never hit the brakes and he was shifting gears!” in it....

The strategy of counting on The Straights to be compliant and kindly is finally starting to be less effective.

Standing in front of a moving vehicle to stop it ONLY works if the driver stops. You (the rioter) are 100% relying on the good nature of your enemy...

Same is true of their intimidation tactics... counting on your enemy to cower and take the abuse quietly. Terrible "strategy" and only ever works with compliant "victims".

They're gonna push it to the point where regular people will start to act preemptively.

So I was doing some research for a laws of self defense class / project and decided to look up the Oregon definition of a Riot:

A person commits the crime of riot if while participating with five or more other persons the person engages in tumultuous and violent conduct and thereby intentionally or recklessly creates a grave risk of causing public alarm.

(2)Riot is a Class C felony. [1971 c.743 §218]

I know the OP info was from Utah (I stayed in this city less than two weeks ago), but hasn't nearly every "peaceful" protest in Oregon (PDX specifically) fit this description? I have an equal protection issue here with their logic of, "We are going to ignore this felony but make sure we enforce everything against evil gun owners."

Rant / off

Absolutely -- to show that level of restrain with a bullet hole in your body and shooter right next to you, demonstrates that driver had no intention of harming anyone. I hope the shooter gets the max, and then some.

This is absolutly insane. It shows how brainwashed and whipped into a frenzy these rioters are. A slow peaceful driver and they think he is a risk big enough to be worth shooting? What the hell?

He should have stomped it after the first shot, and in hindsite, before the shot.

However the best bet is always going to be turning around.

1) "Peaceful" protest is like an EKG - just fine until it isn't.
I threw good EKGs right up until 100% LAD blockage caused me to code in the aid unit.
2) A "peaceful mob" is an oxymoron.
Whatever they call themselves, when they assemble and take their act into neighborhoods any precautions are just reasonable and prudent.
3) They and we all know that Democrat DAs and AGs will not prosecute acts of criminal violence perpetrated in the name of "social justice."
We are on our own, assailed by the mob and TPTB.
4) "He should have stomped it after the first shot, and in hindsite, before the shot."
Turn the radio up
Close your eyes
Count to 3
Step on the gas
Optional to honk the horn as a courtesy if you wish.
OR
Step out onto the verandah and fire 2 blasts into the air.

1) Speaking of expecting incoming traffic to stop, does anybody else remember Brian "Stumpy" Willson protesting the anti-Communist prophylactic actions in /Central America back in ought-87?
Veteran, Activist Recalls Losing Legs To Train In Concord Protest for a mawkish article about it.
Not only do the Snowflakes expect to be exempt from the laws of Man, but from the Laws of Physics too. They expected a train to stop on dime because they were sitting there filled with righteous indignation.
Well, righteous indignation does not trump momentum and Stumpy got run over.

2) All the hand wringing and pearl clutching notwithstanding, the laws of physics are immutable and the "protesters" who jump out in front of cars are gonna get schooled in Basic Newtonian Physics.
a) There is a certain point at which mass in motion can not avoid an obstacle.
b) There is a certain point at which depending on the goodwill of your intended victim to stop for you to assault doesn't work any more as a viable tactic.

3) It's all the fault of Trump and his white supremacist deplorable followers that these poor people feel compelled to risk their very lives to protest the outrage-du jour.

pretty interesting when 'all lives matter' folks only get bent out of shape when particular lives are put in jeopardy.

It's a shame folks are going off the deep end on both sides of these protests. A driver killed an innocent person protesting in Seattle over the weekend, for no apparent reason other than hate.

Its an important thing for anyone who considers themselves a patriot to remember the words falsely attributed to Voltaire and/or Patrick Henry.... "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".
