FLIR is not getting out of civilian sales. They are simply getting rid of some slow sellers and stuff they have issues making profits on.
Not sure what products are being effected.

FLIR has always been, at their core, a super high quality manufacturer that served markets with pockets capable of paying for the latest and greatest. However, their primary technology patents are expiring, and everyone is moving into that space. Meaning any company can now start using and selling that (old) technology for a whole lot less than FLIR. FLIR simply chose not to compete on the consumer market. A $70K thermal camera bought ten years ago that was the latest and greatest has been replaced with a $50K camera that has even more features not thought of back then. It's exciting stuff! The market is going through a lot of changes now, and where as in recent years nobody else had usable thermal viewing technology, now anyone can jump in and offer something better for less. Just go to Optics Planet, search for "thermal imaging," and look at all the brands now in the market. IN the end YOU win because affordability is the new normal. FLIR goes back to doing what they're good at: making cutting edge technology you can't afford.
