He was an idiot. And a poor shot.
I have all my life been amazed at the number of people who own guns, have had them a long time, who when you get to the range can not hit paper. I have always wondered what these people would do if the paper was moving or attacking them. A shockingly high number of gun owners would have been killed by the bear after missing every shot they took at it. Watch Police shooting now that we have so many camera's everywhere. It can be amazing to watch people with training seem to not be able to hit the person they are trying to shoot.

wait, wut?

A guy who hunts in Montana with run ins with bears is an idiot because he frequents bear country? Finishes a grizz with a 10mm in 10 shots a bad shot... while the bear is literally chomping down on him.. a bad shot?
If you didn't catch it, please re-read the article. It said he had a run-in with a bear in Wyoming years earlier. He was trying to recover the elk some other hunter had shot but that hunter had been chased off the carcass by the bear. OK, so a bear is claiming the kill. So this Georgian cowboy has a buddy cover him with his 308 while he tries to recover the elk himself. Predictably, the bear attacks him. Both he and the buddy supposedly shot it, but didn't kill the bear.
Yes, he and his buddy are lousy shots, and are both numbnutz for trying to reclaim a kill from the bear.
I'm not a fan of shooting something because it attacked you when you knowingly encroached it's territory.

You know what doesn't jam at the moment of truth? A revolver chambered in .44 Magnum. Unless it's a Taurus. 🤣

You wouldn't catch me in bear country without a .44 Mag revolver, or .454 Casull. Yes, you have less shots, but it don't take 4 of them to get the job done.

Unless it's Super Bear. F- that dude.

Scary.

They're fast and can close distance very quickly.
Many have never seen one charge and it is shocking how fast those giants can move. Years ago someone posted a video here of some people who got to see it up close. In their back yard one of the Browns charged and grabbed up some game animal, a big one, took it down while the people are shocked and watching it while they were eating just a few feet away. It was both scary and impressive.
