And so it starts !!

WINSTON, Ore. -- The owner of a struggling restaurant said passage of Measure 67 will be the death blow for his diner.

Nic Scevers said the taxes imposed by Measure 67 will force him to close Carrie's Diner in Winston, Ore. He said the restaurant was struggling before voters approved the measure but said the added money he will owe on taxes this year cemented his decision to close.

("Even a small business like this, I have had my accountant give us a slight estimate of what it will cost us and it will be close to 10 grand a year just for that one tax," he said.

That tax amount is for both Carrie's Diner and Karen's Coffee in Roseburg, Ore. Karen's Coffee will remain open, although Scevers said he has cut employee hours.

:(

that was a great place to eat too!

This is going to be a sad period in Oregon's history.

Portland and Eugene business might not suffer but the out lying areas will.

Sad.

Salem has found out that class warfare works. Did you notice how fast Kulongoski came out with a proposal to kill the kicker and put the money in a rainy day fund? They just passed the biggest tax increase in Oregon history and immediately are wanting another one.

Fixed.

This is our money so I felt that the word kill was incorrect. :s0131:

Anyone who would fess up to it. Funny how after the fact no one will admit how they voted.

Edited to add,

I am not a republican but an independant voter who thinks conservative. I stand behind the constitution and tell you I would never vote for a socialist who would steal the hard work others produce. Nor would I vote for people who would attack our rights. It's simple to tell people what you stand for, try it sometime.

Stands to reason there are people here that voted for it or the measure wouldn't have passed. Easiest why to find out who is post the way I did.

The people that do vote for it are misguided. Just like 66 and 67, where do they really think that 700 million is really coming from? Everyday it seems like they keep voting to raise taxes on something or somebody but it all rolls downhill to the commom people.

NWFA's 6000 members all voting against it wouldn't have made a difference, this isn't rocket science, the vote count is online for all to see.

It does help to know who you might be doing business with. If people say they vote for those who would take our gun rights then I would be unable to buy from them or sell to them as I believe in the constitution. First people have to be able to man up and say where they stand.

Why would I ever want to give people money that voted to steal money from me?

jj

There is nothing wrong with standing on principle. If you choose one side or the other then fine, but be man enough to say which side you are on so people can choose to do business with you by what you believe in.

Why do people have to say where they stand? Your requirement is not relevant to the rest of us.

Battle Ground's levy just endend and now they have the other one set to be voted on next month. Here is the break down for the next three years if it passes:

2011-21 million
2012-22 million
2013-23 million

They say this is all for the kids... Well I have to kids in the district and I did not see anything change from the last one. What I did notice is the pay raises for the teachers and staff. I have realized this is the only reason for these levies. The unions and teaches think they deserve mass raises and better health care plans.

I wish the private sector would take over and make these positions performance based and then we would see a change. California voted it down before the ink was dry. If it were performaced based many teachers would be gone. They should sit back and realize they have a great job and great benefits but they keep wanting more......

Why would a person be ashamed of where they stand and not speak of it. Guilt maybe for stealing others money by voting in new taxes? I am under no illusion that people answer to me. People will answer at some time for what they do. Be it financial calimity or whatever, the things you do come back.

However I will ask before I ever do business with a person if they voted for the tax increase on their neighbors. Yep I can be lied to but thaqt just lets karma take a bigger ride down the road.
