I'll most likely never make it to financial "All Star" status, and most likely neither will you... tough-tittie-toenails. As for people not knowing my name? Well, actually many people (in my world) do know my real name, and many know my on-line name around the world, and as a matter of fact one of George Lucas' associates has one of the products I make sitting on his desk. In reality, I have always preferred anonymity and never craved the "spotlight".

ALL work is honorable... ALL Work, but should someone who is only capable (or only aspires) to be a "ditch digger" make as much as someone who has spent countless hours over the course of YEARS in training, schooling, working in "less than hospitable" environments for say... over TWO DECADES to become one of the BEST at what they do?

Does that mean I advocate those with "skills" should stack the deck in their favor at the expense of those less capable... no. Everyone is an individual, with different aptitudes, skills, attitudes, etc. Everyone (as far as I can see) has equal opportunity to get educated (I'm a product of public education). Being a white male, I never got a danged thing from any government agency, I've had to work TWICE as hard to get to where I'm at... I didn't squander my public education by wearing baggy pants, hittin' the pipe, hangin' out on the street corner and ditchin' class writing Rap songs about beatches 'n ho's... well maybe I ditched class once in a while, but I left there proficiently literate.

Where the error lies is that many believe "equal outcomes" should be made "more level"... and that means someone on a panel deciding deciding who makes what... and THAT is centralized socialism... didn't work out to well for the Soviets in the end. ;)

So is it honorable work to "game the system"? Is it just that a hedge fund manager skims millions off the stock market because they paid off the politicians to leave some loopholes in the system? If I work hard planning a bank robbery and I get away with it because of my hard work does that make me deserving of the rewards I've reaped? Would you want to play a game of football with no ref? Why would you want an economic system with no rules? In the past we as a nation prospered under a system of rules that promoted a higher level of social equity, now we have corrupt, winner take all capitalism and guess what... only a very few are prospering. So why not learn from history?

If these folks protested the disproportionally unfavorable tax rates that those of us who actually work have to pay, as much as they protest 'corporate greed', I'd be on board.

So far...meh...

Keith

problem is, as you know, most of those protesters probably think you don't pay enough. if they're hungry, you need to be taxed more.

Copied from the 3rd paragragh of my post you quoted... focus, Loco, focus! ;)

And this is exactly what I am arguing has happened, the deck has been stacked. All I want to see is a return to a somewhat level playing field, one in which no one is above the law, one where no one gets to play by special rules. I want a return to the idea of "promoting the general welfare" and to see the government once again "establish justice".

If you mean establishing justice by arresting occupiers that break the law, destroy private property and poop on police cars, then I'm with you.

Well if you would include prosecuting massive fraud on the part of investment houses, bribery of politicians and gambling with other peoples money then we might agree.

locobob, have you ever thought (just for a second) that maybe yelling at the CEOs and the rich is probably the wrong thing to do? Maybe yelling at the US Gov for forcing companies to outsource? How about yelling at the Fed Reserve for the cause of our next "recession"?

A bunch of people burning garbage in the street and looting businesses because they feel that they should be able to take what they want is hardly a justifiable movement. Sounds more like a bunch of liberals finding excuses to break stuff to me.

Locobob, you and the rest of us here really aren't that different in our opinions. The problem is, most of the folks in this 'protest' think that corporate America is to blame for all of the world's evils and that the government is trying their best, but is powerless, to stop it. They are so clueless that they view the government as a fellow victim, instead of complicit in the crimes. If they staged a massive protest in Washington against spending our great-grandkids' money into oblivion, t'd give them a bit more credence.

Until then, I say again...meh...

Amen!!

Maybe if all these people who protest would actually go and vote for anyone who is not a democrat (or a republican) then things might change. Instead they fall for the lies told to them by the like of Nancy Pelosi who is so full of sheite that there is brown dripping from her ears.
They protest Wall Street and yet they fail to notice that there no legal action going on against any of the Wall Street power brokers going on. Following the S&L debacle there was over 1,500 bankers that were sent to jail for their part in that little escapade How many this time????

I have got a movement for these morons. Its sitting in my toilet.

Why would they protest the source of their college loans and social welfare?

I have to laugh every time one of these people whine about paying taxes. YEA RIGHT

I was trying to find the demands they have made, haven't found the list yet but it was something like:
Forgive all debts.
Pay everyone equally
Still looking for the whole list.

Yep, that's pretty much the big picture - both partys have been bought. First we need to put the democracy back into our Republic, then perhaps we can have a free market based system that works for everyone and not just the few that can afford lobbyists.
I think the core group of "Occupy" does understand this.

Here's thinking I really like.... perhaps you'll like it too. http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=197065
