Yeah lets play nice now...

I really like the idea as "pchewn" said of the existing teachers and staff to get trained and armed. I think we would be surprised just how many would be willing to arm and prepare themselves to protect their students (and themselves too!)

All we can do is hope they go for it seems like yahoo is just trying to discredit the validity of the NRA by tearing down all the facts on the NRAs press conference. Kinda seems like a bellow the belt last ditch effort type move hopefully it a sign even they feel like its a losing battle... Or maybe they are just throwing everything they can at this in hopes to swing ppls opinions. Especially young (STUPID IGNORANT) People that will vote for whatever they think is the "cool" thing at the time Ie: Obama, Obamacare, Obama again, Now feeding into all this hype of gun control as if disarming law abiding Americans will all of a sudden stop gun violence.

I just hope ppl wake up before its too late and realize whats going on here. Fortunately its all speculation for now and *hopefully* republicans hold there chairs (and back bones) and the NRA and all the pro 2a lobbyist manage to hold off this nonsense.

Oh yeah one thing I found laughable in the yahoo article is they said "not even the NRA has proposed a national database for the mentally ill" AS IF its the job of a rifle organization to do governments job seriously? The NRA doesnt need to do ANY thing here! OR even address "society" when a "high profile shooting" happens. If THEIR member didnt have anything to do with it WHY should they? PPL are stupid and ignorant to one plan one person or one 'campaign' can somehow END ALL gun violence and these type of events (that WILL happen with or withOUT guns)

More evidence that, despite the media's best efforts... the people of america are using their own brains AND coming around to support the firearms community.

Poll: 54 percent view NRA favorably

"More Americans have a favorable view of the National Rifle Association than unfavorable, according to a Gallup poll out Thursday that was conducted during the rollout of a new NRA proposal to have armed guard in every school.
According to the poll, 54 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of the group, while 38 percent said they have an unfavorable opinion. Those numbers have fluctuated since Gallup first polled on the question in 1993, but the nation’s largest gun lobby has commanded a favorable opinion for most of that time — hitting a low of 42 percent in 1994 and a high of 60 percent in 2005."

And... in the state of New York... in Staten Island...

SI parents want armed school guards

"The city should use roving patrols of armed air-marshal-like agents to keep schools safe in the wake of the Connecticut massacre, parents say.

A proposal to hire 300 to 500 retired police officers — who already have permits to carry concealed weapons — is being introduced for a vote at next month’s Staten Island school-board meeting."
