    I'm far from your typical sailboat aficionado, but the technology in these exotic race boats fascinates me.
    Anyone else watching?

    I've caught a race or two. The "boats" if that is what you could call them are awesome. The tech is off the charts. The speeds are silly. On the other hand it all seems so removed from my actual (limited) sailing experience. And most importantly sooooo pointlessly expensive unless the point is to keep competition low since almost no one can even afford to build one of those things.

    It's exciting to watch with speeds in excess of 50 mph. However, with fewer then half of the usual entries into the Louis Vuitton, I see them going to a less high tech venue to draw competitors in the future.

    Kind of like the Reno air races. Same pilots, same planes. More of a show than competition.
