I would think that aluminum would be a poor material choice for a muzzle device.
Steel, stainless steel or titanium would have a much longer service life for that duty.
One clue would be :
Name a well-known muzzle device builder that uses aluminum.
I don't know of one.
I've had a Tactical Solutions muzzle brake (aluminum) on and off one of my 10-22s for at least 4-5 years now. On occasion I take a brush to the ports to clear out any build up. It's still doing just fine. To me it acts more as a thread protector as I feel no difference in recoil.
