All you AK dudes, what to buy for defensive 7.62x39?

If you can find any, Winchester makes a self defense load in 7.62x39. Course, there are better (and cheaper) options already mentioned.

And 762x39 is a rifle cartridge--more punch than a pistol.

Well, intermediate but semantics I suppose.

My #1 criteria for any defensive ammo is - does the projectile expand when it hits the soft target?

FMJ and many foreign 7.62x39 "soft point" projectiles do not expand when they hit a soft target.

Hornady SST (Zombie Max) is claimed the best all around, given the reviews I watched last night.
I'll grab a box if I can find it available brick and mortar.
