Lots of 30-45 somethings coming into the army. Many have no prior service. The problem is, the older guys and girls are more stand up, less legal problems, and far easier to get in without waivers.

My source: All the new friggin private-specialist types coming in that were older than me, before I retired. They may have dropped the age back down again to 35 or 40. Draft age I think would be lower than 29, that is if they ever re-institute it, 29 year olds are too hard to "scrub" Too much life experience for a conscript.

How many people are going to try and escape with sub zero temps, snow and miles from any civilization.

I grew up in an area that averaged 300+ inches of snow per year and I would escape such a compound in an instant if I was able to. One can live very well in snow country with little difficulty. Just takes a bit of know how.

"Rounding up" is typically (in historical scenarios) reserved for either a specific group of people, or the "unruly" types, they are then used as an example to the rest of the masses to continue their "Good behavior". Martial law is also typically a "legal justification for the future" for these actions.

As Trlsmn said, a "State of Emergency" is more likely, as it's even easier to call for it, legal-wise, especially following a disaster, man-made or natural or "unnatural".

More food for thought: do not be surprised if these "drills" remain a common occurrence. The military has previously employed the tactic to desensitize the target before they go in for real (i.e. Mogadishu).

The term Desensitize is an Excellent choice of words! The American people have had that used against them for a number years now. But what's worse is a lot of people prefer it because they are choosing to look the other way or refuse to deal with it.

Agree, anyone can go online and look into the modern principles of war; they include the type of operations that could apply to any chunk of land/population.

No distinctions are made in regards to citizenry or nationality!

The "battle-space" (full weight of the government) is no longer tied to any particular "Crispus Attucks" moment; resources are already in place. Here is but one example; stimulus monies, the local jurisdictions "signed their lives away" when they took the stimulus monies. Third-party oversight of their environmental and emergency response activities, go into any jurisdiction and you will find where the requirements we must pay more for are tied to the cities, counties and states who took the stimulus money. Another example; every grant-program has strings attached.

They are already here.

if I were a Holywood script writter I would be reading these on a daily basis. Some many great ideas for some action movies.
In the end the government is just a bunch of power hungry narcissistic creeps.
They too live in an echo chamber, and because of it do a ton more damage than good.
Of course their underlings (the alphabet soup agencies) monitor these type of board and provide summarized reports up the chain of command. Chances are that by the time these reach the very top they provide a picture that makes the top political hecks think that they have an insuraction brewing. Then they try to prepare for it and people on these boards see signs of that and speculate even more and round and round it goes.
Truth is that the politicians just want power and ability to skim off some cash from the crooked deals they facilitate. The string pullers just care about making more money. That's all.

Now, if the financial system implodes, and it very well might, a completely different set if things to worry about will come to the surface.

i've been seeing blackhawks flying at low altitude over portland every couple of weeks. it's usually in the afternoon while i'm at one of my stops for work. once a month while driving back from southern oregon, i see several DHS humvees zooming along northbound i-5 through eugene. every time i see them, there is a strong temptation to roll down the window and flip them the bird.
