Back in about 2001 during the Biscuit/Florence fire the smoke here got extremely thick a couple of nights. I tried sleeping wearing a NBC gas mask with a fresh NBC filter. Could not. Too much effort forcing air through the element. We need to get some effective low resistance breathing filters

Any ideas, recommendations or experiences?

As far as the rigs go I use K&N and on the old trucks, tractor and welders it's an oil bath filter. I remember back in 1980 we robbed my mum of her pantyhose and wrapped the air filters with those. Lee used to make what IIRC they called a two staged air filter that had a thin yellow foam band around the outside of their filters. After May18th you couldn't find one of them at any price in Yakima for a long time..

I will say that after using those particulate respirators with the "cool flow valve" for lots of sanding projects, that they are far superior to the old kind without the valve. They are a lifesaver if you do lots of sanding for extended periods.:D
