Would this be an appropriate place to ask for advice on the value of some ammo I'd like to sell? I have a lot of 308 and 7.62x51, mostly military surplus, that I don't want to take with me when I move this fall. I haven't seen much for sale. Nobody seems to have any in stock. I don't want to ask too much and I don't want to rip myself off either. Also, I want to sell locally as I don't really want the trouble of shipping heavy ammo. I'd appreciate some advice on what I should be asking for it. Are some country's battle packs worth more than others? Here's what I want to sell:

A: Charging market price is not wrong or immoral.

B: Making a profit on your investment, is not wrong or immoral.

C: Try an ammo search engine to get an idea of what the market price is.

Example: 308 Ammo Price as Low as 35¢ | Cheap Bulk 7.62x51 NATO Ammo and uncheck steel, reloads, and backorder, and it looks like a person would pay a low of 64c/rd to a high of $3.60/rd for something exotic. It is likely that somewhere in that range, is a fair price for the type of ammo you have in today's market.

BI-Mart had .308 for .60 a round recently. Someone on this site sold some ZQI for a little less than that. I would think it would move really fast at .50 cents a round and slow at .80 or higher unless you are willing to ship. Some of the ammo is sealed and close to 40 years old, but still good ammo. I think I have some of the Portuguese and it shoots good. The match loads could bring more of a premium price. Regardless, it looks like some good ammo. I might take some if the price is right.

.60-75/per round seems to be the current going market rate. Last year I bought .308 at .50/round and would jump on anything below that mark. Right now .60 is considered a good deal and it starts to level out around 70-75 cents/rd.

You can add about $10 per ammo can and the stripper clips will add a little value too.

Ask what you think is fair and the right buyer will be out there.

It's also worth noting that if you sell to someone locally and they complain about the price, your price doesn't get a 10% tax boost nor does it come with UPS charges, so if Midway is selling something for 70c/rd, it's really 77c/rd with tax and shipping can take that over 80c easy. Just something remember when you get to dickering.

As for me, disregard as irrelevant and sanctimonious, anyone whining about prices too high. Its your stuff, let the market bear it, or not. You can always readjust it.

Yep -- I recently spent $10 more per 1000 on small rifle primers than I expected because when it came down to it, it was the only place I could find after 2 hours of sustained searching that had them in stock. I still spent half an hour searching after finding those trying to find a "reasonable" price until I concluded that the price was reasonable and that price was probably the only reason I was able to buy them. I bought them even though I still have 750 from my previous order but I wanted to have some cushion. Now, maybe all the small rifle primers on backorder are about to flood the shops, and maybe they're not, but at least I have a cushion even if it wasn't a pre-panic price.

Battle packs usually sell for 25% to 50% more per round than standard mil-surp ammo

And the quality of the ammo inside does make a difference. IIRC I sold the Portugese battle packs for more than the Malaysian. I think I sold one or the other for $120 per 200 pack?

Ammoseek.com is a good place to start, but I have found that googling the ammo too will often turn up better prices on some sites that Ammoseek doesn't seem to cover.

If all the seek bots say they only have likish ammo ON HAND for $3 a round, that's about what it's going for, plus shipping.
