No really...did a monkey just fly outta my butt? Because I never thought I'd see this day with Los Angeles.

LA County actually started loosening up CCW permit issuance 6-12 months ago. But here Sherrif Villanueva announces the county is essentially going to "shall issue," as a result of the recent SCOTUS decision. He notes that the county has approximately 3145 active permits so far, in a county the size of 10 Million. Those are atrocious numbers, obviously, but hopefully it's all about to change.

To that end, he's expecting the overall demand to be 50K CCW permits based on the volume of neighboring counties. And he's now actively engaging the police chiefs in the surrounding jurisdictions to get them to either start issuing permits themselves or allocate personnel to his organization to help with the expected increase.

This is great news, obviously, but we are still waiting to see what Gov Newsom and AG Bonta have up their sleeves to make things more difficult. The expectation is that they will ask the legislature to add some type of psych eval to the state CCW requirements and/or something related to proof of good moral standing...something like maybe needing reference letters or something equally as ridiculous. Stay tuned.

Oh, and sorry about the reddit link. I couldn't find this on the YouTubes.

OH but wait the fee will now increase to some stupid amount of money that no one but the wealthy can handle. And they will justify it by saying this huge increase in work load and manpower requirements was never budgeted for.

I'm pretty sure the supreme court in the ruling stated you couldn't use high fees, I could be wrong though.

More than likely, they'll use low staffing to be able to create a wait. Similar to the OSP only having a handful of clerks doing instant background checks.

Cool…. More folks to add to the CA DOJ's DOXXING list…..

That Sheriff is a savvy politician. He's going to run for a far more grandiose office eventually. A lot of wealthy southern Cali residents are truly sick of "blu-topian" progressive ideas that fail miserably.

Good job reading the room.
If there's so many of them, how come the recall effort failed miserably? I might be missing something. It's not like I look into various news sources to get the scoop. To much much of it is '"scoops" of BS.

I figured SoCal is just one HUGE potland, Eugene, Salem Oregon.

Yeah. "Woke" idiots yearning for a more socialistic society. Where everything is free, the government raises you children and you don't have to work. Among other undesirable things.

One other thing. The incredible stupidity of the Repubs at time like this when the country is, RIPE, for a different kind of leadership for the U.S., and the Republicans march out the overturning of Roe vs Wade!!! Which will just about insure the repubs lose in 2024.
And then from first hand experience here in Oregon, that we quit talking about pretty much, those Republicans again, that won't vote for Betsy Johnson because she was a dem and did some dem things.

Try false vote results .

Half the cemeteries in California are die hard Newsom supporters.

I'll never be able to believe there's enough cheating to make the kind of difference there was in the Gavin Newsome recall. 61.9% against. I'm sure there are discrepancies. The bad thing about it is the dems refuse to tighten things up. And I'll never believe that Trump won.

RE : Post #7
High Fees

My fear is that "High Fees"
Is like saying, people should support "Reasonable Laws".

How high is high?
What's reasonable?
And to whom?

The Govt likes to draw lines.

Yeah.....just think about the tax brackets (or even with the other Govt Free Give Away Programs). Make one cent over the limit......and you get rewarded with a higher tax bracket or you just don't get ANY benefit.

Consider the latest "free giveaway that is pending"?

Student loan debt forgiveness. Yeah......one proposal that is being floated currently.......is to "forgive" up to $10k for those making up to $150k a year.

Really?
I make way less than that........and no one is about to GIVE ME anything.

Aloha, Mark

PS....How does this relate to firearms?

OK, Ok, ok.......
Say that I had a monthly student loan payment of $300 a month.

Well, if I didn't have to make that payment. Hummm.......how much ammo could I buy per month?

"I"ll never" be correct.

We're playing this game in San Diego right now. For the first issuance of your CCW permit, an applicant can currently expect to pay almost $400 in fees and class expense. Part of this $400 includes the "Sheriff's Application Fee" which is currently $63.

The Sheriff, however, has now requested to raise that $63 to $176 dollars which will supposedly cover the full amount of what it actually costs him to administer the permit program. But that is damn near a 200% increase and will raise the overall cost of initially getting a permit to over $600. And to add insult to injury, California CCW permits are only good for two years.

I don't know what it costs in Oregon to get a permit but in Washington it's $54 (the last time I paid) and the permit is good for five years. I would argue that $400 to exercise what is supposed to be a God given and constitutionally protected RIGHT is already excessively burdensome. $600 is NUTS!
