Ok guys I was looking for a great idea on a get home bag/laptop bag. I am on the road all day for work and pretty much live on my laptop, so I was thinking since it's always with me it would be great to also make it a GHB. I'd like it to be fairly small but room for the usual stuff needed, Glock 21, knife, small amount of other goodies too. I was looking at a few different options and would love some input from the experts…that's all of you. :)

Get a Swiss army backpack from target. It will stand out a lot less then a tactical bag will IMO.

And if your not using it daily, then quality shouldn't be much of an issue with wear concerns or whatnot.

I've been carrying this bag daily for 2 years, and it's still going strong. I carry a 17" laptop, charger and other stuff. It's very comfortable to wear, the padded straps are easy on the shoulder. I usually only carry it slung over one shoulder, but it's comfortable in traditional backpack mode too. Even when I load it up, using all the various pockets, and 2 full size water bottles, it's comfortable to wear. You can't beat the price either. My wife liked it so much, I ended up getting one for her too.

Oh, and the way the pockets are set up, you can easily slip a pistol and mags in one of the middle pockets and it just about disappears into the bag. Unlike some of the 'tactical' bags that just say 'gun'.

Like I said, 2 years of daily use and it's still holding up great. I'd definitely buy this again.

EDIT - No idea why the link I've tried to post twice shows up as some Bizrate link to a BassPro item - the item I linked was on Amazon. So, if you want to find the one I linked, go to Amazon, search "High Sierra Swerve Backpack" - It runs about $40.

I've been using the5.11 Covert 18 for the last year. Great laptop bag with hydration bladder compartment if you should need it (otherwise it has a plastic stiffener in there) two admin compartments in the main compartment. A large Velcro area to attach a concealed holster accessible from either side of the backpack. Another external admin pocket and lastly a medium size compartment pocket with molle and Velcro.

Thank you all for the input and advice, I think your right on the tactical look kind of saying gun. I guess I liked the idea of a pocket that was designed for a concealed gun, but really I could make any pocket hold a pistol.

The Covert18 bag from 5.11 doesn't scream tactical or gun. It can be very low key based the color you chose.

I like the 5.11 gear, it's really nice - I own a couple smaller pieces of their gear. My only issue is that it's expensive. The High Sierra Swerve Backpack at Amazon is similar in size and capacity to the 5.11 model above, with the exception of the dedicated gun/tactical pouch, but it's a full 1/3 the price of the 5.11 model. I've actually used a 5.11 pistol pouch in my High Sierra pack to carry a pistol. I just wish the 5.11 was less expensive, it's hard to justify spending that much more for the benefit of a gun pouch built in.

Ok guys here it is this is the bag I went with. I looked at several different options including all the ones that were mentioned here. I like the size of this one, (5.11 Rush Delivery Lima) and the option to really load it out in a SHTF situation. The bag so far is awesome but it's new so I will update as I use it and maybe do a video on what I like and don't like. I'm really trying to find something that isn't perfect with this bag but I guess you get what you pay for because I can't seem to find anything I'm not in love with. So far I've got the laptop, charger and mouse. Glock 17 with extra mag, some pens, sticky notes, about 5 files, an altoids survival kit, small med kit, some high calories survival bars, and knife. The idea of the bag was to have my day to day working stuff plus a larger pistol and a minimal amount of survival stuff if needed to get home. The bag has PLENTY of room left over, in fact it looks almost empty the way it is. I'm sure everyone could think of a bunch more things to fill it up with but I'm not looking for a 20lb+ laptop bag :)

Let me know what you guys think or if you have any questions about the bag, I bought it from Blumenthal's for $99.00. http://www.511tactical.com/rush-delivery-lima.html BAG 20140630_123259_resized.jpg 20140630_123323_resized.jpg 20140630_123333_resized.jpg 20140630_123403_resized.jpg
