worked with a doc once who told us about one of the cases he had while doing internship. Cop shot a perp in the lower abdomen with a .357. They worked on the guy for over two hours but finally had to stop. There was so much damage they couldn't find all the bleeders, and the guy just bleed out...he was losing blood faster than they could put it in.

Bullets and bones do nasty things to soft tissue.
