Sometimes there is just a synergy between the rifle and the shooter. Regardless of chambering etc... If you find a gun that just sings to you then you are smart to never let it go. I've shot a 700BDL in 7mm identical to mine except for the optic and it just felt like night and day. Cant explain it.
Even though I love my '7 Mary Mary', I think the 300wm sounds like a great choice for the OP. If I was doing it all over again I would give more consideration to the .300 probably, but Im pretty happy with the decision I made.
Cant wait to shoot my new .308 though. :)

300 over the 7mm any day! This is America, we don't need no stinkin' metrics. That's why I shoot .223 in my AR, not that 5.56 crap! :gun18:

Thats what happened to the .6mm remington, the .243 came out and the 6 languished and almost died a death of atrophy. I for one am glad it didn't. As a handloader I can make that little cartridge sing songs the .243 only dreamed it could. One could reasonably load and fire a 243 in a 6, but not the other way around, no no no. The 6 is a far superior cartridge.

But I digress. These are the current listings for max loads for the 7mm rem mag according to my handy dandy Speer loading manual, Lord I hope I'm not boring you too much, but here goes.
115 gr=3503 fps, 120=3435, 130=3314, 145=3135, 160=2976 and last but not least, 175=2954.

Now for the .300 Win mag,
100 gr=3604, 110=3599, 130=3465, 150=3301, 165=3280, 168=3190, 180=3059, 190=3136
200= 2856.

As a side note here I'll again throw in a plug for the 6mm rem. The data lists a 105 gr @ 3146 fps using 45 grains of IMR 4831. Compare that to the load for the 110 .300@ 3599 fps, it burns a whopping 83.0 grains of same said IMR 4831 to get there, granted the the .30 is 1/5 larger in dia., and packs a much bigger ouch when it gets there, it leads back to the real question, which is and should be,, SHOT PLACEMENT. It matters nothing if you can't comfortably shoot it. I've seen far too many hunters in elk camp show up with their beautiful super duper high end magnums and not be able to hit the side of a barn if they were inside doing all their shooting.
