I also favor the STW and have had the barrel go for thousands of rounds. BUT I have been eyeballing the 7mm Allen but it is strictly a hunting rifle not something to target shoot with.
 
Barrel wear in a hunting rifle is much less a consideration than for a precision rifle. A hunting rifle needs to get the bullet into a paper plate sized area at whatever your hunting distance is. It all depends on your application. A 7mm RM is supersonic out to a mile with enough energy to meet my needs. Beyond that, for me, larger 7mm cartridges only result in more recoil. But,that's just me and my needs. I suggest spending time with a decent ballistics calculator to aid in your decision like jbm (JBM - Calculations - Trajectory (Simplified)).
